I went into a Bucherer today and they had the Explorer 1. Was already filling out the registration card when I had a weird feeling and cancelled the transaction. Still on the fence on where there to get it or not.

Don't they have to return the watch to Rolex when that happens? I was told that the registration card can't be used for the next purchaser if it's been partially filled out for someone else.

I was offered a new gmt for 2.5 times retail by an AD. I said I'd pay MSRP and I was asked if I would prefer a Tudor.

Naughty AD. You should name and shame! They’d potentially loose the Rolex contract if they got wind ::stirthepot::

Just more honest than the other ADs who sell to Grey Market/resellers dealers for a higher profit.

How is AD able to do that (B2C)? Grey dealers yes, but ADs?

My best guess is they sell to a "normal customer" with the promise of buying it back at 1.5x msrp then they flip it again at 2.x msrp. Since then it is "pre-owned". They then find another customer to do it and continue doing it so they can double dip on the profits and skirt Rolex rules.

I was a bit taken aback and shocked than a dealer would attempt to pull it with a current production model.

I'm going to chat with my local boutique about it but lets be real nothing will happen. Heck, Rolex may hear about their shenanigans and see if they can get in on double dipping too.

I went into my local AD in the sw of the UK to get a SS gmt. They called me with one after 2 months but I changed my mind as I wanted a sub.

Fast forward another 2 months and they got me a SS non date sub.

They told me that the policy of holding the warranty card has meant that,

(1) people won't go on the list which makes it shorter / open
(2) people on the list change their mind when it comes to leaving the card.

Whilst i appreciate that these models are the easier to get models I was glad to leave the warranty card with them to get my sub. Love it.

If any of them were in NYC, let me know - i’m there for a few weeks in December and would be sorely tempted if the right watch was there & ready to go.

Not NYC. Further North. I'd tell you exactly where, but I don't want to help the flippers. There are people out there that want a specific watch for keeps, not just a way to get a quick buck. One of the reasons so many are hard to get is these 3rd parties swoop in and buy them, leaving the rest of the world screwed.

Understood. I’m looking for the watch I wear every day until i’m in a box and it goes to my daughter. I have no interest in buying a watch to sell it to someone else...this is a big deal to me.

Just signed up for a 116610LV and was told approximately a years waiting time, probably a little less. Gives me time to save up 😀

That's pretty good! Is this an AD you have bought from already?

Update: went to several other London Rolex ADs and none had the Explorer 1, including the Oficial Rolex Boutique. This includes two locations of Watches of Switzerland, Selfridges and others of which I don't recall the name.. Finally went back to the Bucherer store and the Explorer 1 was still available. I went for it.

Also saw a few Daytona's in the pre-owned section.

Cool.
Preowned Daytona’s are quite easily available. They are just unreasonably expensive.

Well, you should call Rolex headquarters and tell them.

I get my Rolex serviced there but haven’t bought a new watch from them. I had a nice chat with a lady in their sales department and she told me that there had been a lot of drop outs from their waiting list for the 116610LV. Perhaps due to the new GMT pepsi.
