I think last year ST was a better edition, the leather roll was more usable than the box of the new version IMHO. Reserved one anyway!

Disappointing morning. Spent 45 minutes on laptop, ipad, phone, multiple browsers to be denied a watch. First "reserve" was 0065, last one was 1470. Oh well. I am on the waiting list and keeping my fingers crossed.

I guess you nailed it 👍
Checked out the English version of the 1st episode on Youtube. It was fun and reminded me a bit of Thunderbirds (original puppet series, not the later stuff).
The 9 o'clock subdial hand represents the capsule Hayata (the hero) uses to transform himself from a patrol team member into Ultraman, the giant monster-fighting super hero. He was given the capsule by an alien and I think they call it a "beta" capsule in the English version.

I managed to reserve one ... However I prefer last year's st1 .. do you think anyone would be willing to swap a new st1 for a new st2?

Rumours couldn’t be stopped, some people already knew what was coming: the Omega Speedy Tuesday 2 “Ultraman”. The big questions were just: how will it look and when will it be released. This is it, the ST2 “Ultraman”. A design inspired by the 1967 Speedmaster “Ultraman” (We covered it here). Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday 2 “Ultraman” […]

Nice looking Red Speedy.

Pretty cool. But maybe they could have packed a few more design elements into that dial...

I reckon you could probably make that deal. There will be a few people out there with the first that are ready to let it go for the newest thing.

So, day #2 since ‘the bomb’ dropped. We have all had a chance to spend one day looking at it, then one night to sleep on it. Today yields fresh eyes and no surprises, everything processed. So, what do we think today?

(I think it’s better than I did yesterday, and yesterday I was fully convinced 👍)

The sub dial is questionable at best, but a least is only fully visible under UV, the rest is brilliant. I love the nods to the past but the corresponding care taken to ensure that owners of original parts don't get burned (the orange Tach text for example). The return of stepped dial, and DON are proof that Omega listens. Glad I got a reservation.

Still the helmet.
Snoopy is popular culture.
Ultraman-helmet is merchendizing, especially with regard to the Netflix relaunch.
Otherwise great.

I wonder if the orange bit's and pieces are fade-resistant. As optical brighteners are used (UV active), this could be a problem.

I was fortunate enough to get one reserved. I was hoping to get 0701 (same as my ST1) but it did not go through. If anyone has it on here and is willing to swap let me know.

@Robert-Jan Congrats on another beautiful piece!

A west coast Canadian (me hahaha) stayed up until 3:00 AM PST to reserve this baby. Got my birthdate on my first try. Furiously clicked the confirmation button after filling up my info... but get guess what? The button doesn’t work... I watched the 5:00 count down and continue to tick and until finally the timer went!

The best part? I refresh two other times, got it, BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED!!! COME ON!!!

Lost out cause of the button <— Happened to multiple people. Not a fun experience!

Yep, same here - lost out because the buttons didn't respond and the timer ran out. In my case the site popped up an offer to let me add another 5 minutes, but that accept button also didn't work!

My exact thinking.

Btw, a very nice watch but not $7k nice imho.

If I am not wrong, the original ST1 was about the same price and also did not come up with a bracelet.

On an unrelated note, that hexagonal presentation box looks amazing.

Thanks for the support and nice comments. It was quite a blast today.

Thanks for the nice design, but what are your thoughts about the fact that so many of us had a number selected and tried to reserve it, but the site would not respond so that we could complete the transaction before it timed out after 5 minutes? And even the offer to add another 5 minutes to complete the process was unresponsive.

We missed out, after staying up at 4AM to get it done. The site didn't even go active for me until about 4:27AM.

It didn't acknowledge that my auto-filled address had been entered, and I had to go back and manually enter it again. Then it took forever to let me click "agree to terms" and "Next". Then I couldn't confirm my details as the button didn't work, and when it offered another button to click for "I need another 5 minutes" it didn't respond.

Poof - time's up, you lose! Omega gave many of us the big Lucy pulls the football away from Charlie Brown routine, and we're pissed.

This is the issue with limited editions using an online raffle system with no pre-payment required.

For ST1, I imagine 80% of the people who reserved were genuine buyers who bought the watch to wear while 10% reserved to resell. The last 10% are those who reserved the watch to wear, saw the grey market prices and decided to resell. Because there was little to no notice given about the first ST, most people who reserved it truly loved the watch for what it was.

Now that people expect a ST every year and they have seen the grey market prices (at least the initial grey market prices), the percentage of people who will reserve to resell is just going to keep increasing with each subsequent edition.

The flaw in your logic there is that not every LE is going to sell at a premium. Use that line on an owner of a 60th LE 2915 and they may give you a wry smile since even a BNIB model will struggle to get much above RRP at present, and even ST1 models now sit around on sales forums for a quite while unless offered at only a smallish premium over list (check for yourself). Yes there can be a flurry of transactions at inflated prices right after launch but many of these watches (and there are many to choose from) wont and don't fly. I can see the ST2 launch softening values of the ST1 further incidentally...

I think the chances of a stepped dial and DON bezel have increased for next year's Apollo 11 50th LE. If my hunch is correct, I can see ST2 values softening in the long term, as I do think those two design elements together with a "vintage" bracelet and a good caseback mission patch would make the XI-50th one of the most desired Moonwatch LEs ever. What might help maintain ST2 value overtime is the Ultraman appeal. For example, if the Japanese think this is THE Speedy LE to have, it could still be sought after for many years to come.

I really hope Omega consult with @Robert-Jan and this team on the Apollo 11 50th LE...they clearly know how to curate a coherent set of design elements for a Speedy LE. Looking forward to 2019😀

ideally the 50th LE brings back the vintage logo again and pairs it with a Cal 321 modern version since the tooling is all still sitting at Breguet, if they did that it'd be a hit but I imagine it will do well no matter what.

I'm just hoping the 321 gets reborn because it would also solve the parts situation.

I missed out this time - cue violins - because I had a hospital appointment at the time, but I have registered on the Waiting List. I remain not-bothered about financial values either in regard to this or my ST#1.

I think Omega have done a good job with this one - the various features, with the possible exception of the gimmick 'head,' work together well and it's a dial rich with colour and engaging details. On balance I slightly prefer the look of my Japan Racing, that being a little more pure as a design, whereas the ST#2 does appear to me to be the result of a brief to get as many features together into a single dial layout - but I'd still happily stump up today if I was offered one!
