Yeah the guy I use to service my other watches said he's never seen one with arabic numerals and that ref before, that's originally what struck me as strange, TBH I don't care what I sell it for, as it's not what I'm after anyway, I think I was honest in the description stating it was in poor condition etc.....

Thanks Peemacgee, ideally if I can get something in gold, excellent condition, auto or manual would be perfect.....

Well that's a start for options but beauty is in the eye of the beholder
    What style speaks to you?
    Seamaster?
    Constellation?
    Chronograph?
    50s,60s,70s?
You have a pretty big budget and many Omegas incl gold (and other brands) are within your range.
Perhaps look at the WRUW to pin down what you really like.
Start to research a particular type.
as has often been said before - knowledge and patience is key in this game.

Well you've already doubled your money at its current bid.

    Couldn't agree more
Couldn't agree more with that, I have been researching quite heavily and really like the constellation models in gold.... For some reason I'm leaning more towards manual wind models, just something about interacting more with the watch (probably sounds strange)

Nothing strange about wanting a manual wind - but in case you didn't realise Connies are all automatic.
However, They also come in multiple case styles and have dial variations - most notably pie-pan and dome dial.
Search for the Constellation show and tell thread for many examples of the variations
Some Gold Connies are within your budget - (18k & 14k) but you have to be careful.
Lots of redialled watches out there and gold cases tend to get polished.
Find something you like and post it for comment (try to do a bit of research first)
Here's a link to Desmond's amazing site on Constellations.
