Great news! At least for me, 2182 is back in action. I thought something broke when it hummed but the hands didn't move. Then it stopped humming. Swapped batteries with my other accutron and away she went. I should have done that to begin with. I was going to check the battery voltage when it first stopped but I couldn't find my multi meter. I also assumed that it had a new battery when I bought it 5 months ago, bad assumption.
So enough power to hum, but not enough to keep time.
Time to order some batteries.

Maybe I`m wrong but at that red circle it look like some tiny piece of white plastic:

This could be part of a teeth of day or/and date disc which is a common problem with those hummers.
The discs are made of plastic and tend to break after all this years.
The pieces fell into the movement and cause problems there maybe you should check this.

I’ve never run into an Accutron with plastic day and/or date rings. But I suppose….!

So, the circuit seems okay, the tuning fork hums, that is encouraging. But, the watch doesn’t keep time. Does the sweep seconds hand turn, but the minute and hour hands don’t move? That usually indicates a symptom of a common fault with Accutron 218 and derivative models.

It works fine now and has kept time for the last hour to the second.
The white mark is a mystery, under a loupe it appears to be paint. A mistake or defect in manufacture?
I found my multimeter and old battery measures 0.459V, so no good. It was just a dying battery.

Well the white mark is not attached to the dial, because it migrated over to the 9 o'clock. There are a few fibers floating around in there too. A couple riding on the second hand.
And now it's gone, maybe fell into the calendar window. I will get to play Where's Waldo every time I wear it.

A local watch shop still has quite a few accutron tuning forks. They are a little dressier models including a gold one. I was never that big into these until I picked up the astronaut. I’m thinking of heading back picking through some more

Yes, just like this one also. Both Swiss movements.

1966 (M6) Accutron Astronaut 214HN

1959, William O. Bennett helped develop the Calibre 214, the first tuning fork movement. It resulted in an electronic watch. They were guaranteed to be accurate within 2 seconds per 24 hours or 1 minute a month.

THE ONLY WATCH THAT WENT and was LEFT ON THE MOON.

Though the Accutron can not claim to have been worn on the wrist of an Astronaut while walking on the lunar surface on the Apollo missions, It can claim the fact that it has gone to space, landed on the lunar surface, was used on lunar missions and IS THE ONLY WATCH THAT WENT and was LEFT ON THE MOON.

All timing devices aboard both the LUNAR orbiter and LUNAR lander had accutron movements. Apollo 16 used and left a Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) on April 21, 1972 for Passive Seismic Experiment (PSE).

In Dec 1972 Apollo 17 landed on the LUNAR surface and collected additional data from the piece of equipment, the accutron watch housed on the piece of equipment was still functioning and keeping perfect time.

Unfortunately Apollo 17 was the last LUNAR mission, the Seismic equipment with the Accutron watch is still there on the lunar surface to this day.

1970 Bulova Accutron Deep Sea 666

the lume on the handset and some on the dial are dead ... but some still glow, along with the 12 o'clock marker on the bezel

Taken the last few post to its logical conclusion, I now understand why the moon glows at night.

If I recall correctly all the black bezel versions are Swiss made.
And many people are unaware that the Black Bezel numerals can have different Font shapes.
