Service for older Omega watches

What a great forum. Spent way too much time perusing last night.

During my enjoyment, I ran into a couple of threads concerning difficulty associated with parts and service for older Omega watches. I remember at least one of them concerned the "Medicus" variety. Is there an age, beyond which, vintage Omega watches become problematic from a service/parts standpoint?

It’s actually easier to service something from the 1940s than it is to service some from the 1980s with annoying quartz movements. Some really old and rare stuff may have parts supply issues to independents and may be required to be sent to Bienne but then Bienne still has parts or can make more if needed.

Thanks for the clarification. In the Medicus thread, at least in my interpretation, it seemed responders were suggesting that the only avenue of obtaining parts, in this case balance and/or spring, was to hope to get "lucky."

If it’s any help Omega themselves will service anything up to 100 years old. But you have to send it away and it takes like 6 months I think

A lot of people hound EBay looking for parts watches, easier than trying to find a singular part
