Rolex AD's will be bracing themselves for all the phone calls they will receive to add the new model to their waiting lists. This will likely happen 0.00001 seconds after the announcement goes live.

3 more shopping days to go before the rumoured price rise on the 1st of September. Anyone got any last minute plans to buy before this takes effect?

I’m very tempted to buy a Speedmaster sapphire sandwich Before the 1st. But I also want to see if they bring out an updated model with the 3861. 😕

I went and bought the very same watch last weekend ahead of the price rise. There would have come a point that I would have resented paying the price of one so I figured I'd try to get one with a discount at the current price rather than one with 10-15% off the new 6% increased price.

I liked the idea of having the 1863 movement rather than a coaxial 3861. I know that the 1861/1863 movements aren't the original movement but they're certainly closer to original spec than the 3861 which Omega now fit to most of their watches. The feeling on other forums is that a move to the 3861 movement would also be accompanied by another 15ish% price increase on top of the 6% too.

What discount did you manage to get? Are you happy with the watch?

I have been wanting one of these watches for years and have continuously kicked myself for not picking one up a long time ago before all the other price rises. I am delighted with it! I always thought I would get the classic hesalite version but the polished 1863 movement is too nice to miss out on. I have had clumsy moments with watches in the past and didn't like the idea of really badly scuffing the hesalite (beyond the point of polishing). Sapphire stands a better chance of surviving a glancing blow against something!

I went to a major UK High Street AD and managed to get a 15% discount with a little gentle back and forth discussion. This got me the sapphire sandwich for the price of the hesalite.

That’s great, congratulations 👍

Buy, wait for Sept 1, then decide/ return...

I think people spending thousands of pounds/dollars on a watch aren’t really feeling the full force of the economic downturn/pandemic.

I was under the impression that it was more like a 29% price increase?

Not sure whether it’s true, but if so it’s a very aggressive move in the midst of a world economy saddled with a pandemic.
I heard about the price hike on another forum, so I bought the hesalite speedy that I had been eyeing for about 2 years now, a few days ago.

When I bought it, I asked the AD how their sales are doing because of COVID

he said they are doing really well

he said “some people would have you believe otherwise, but we are doing better than before”

so who knows!?

Also, I would like to point out that it seemed like gray prices increased a bit for a brand new unworn speedmaster, so I assumed that maybe greys were puttting their money on the price increase as well.

Same here, though they didn't specify an amount. We already had a decent-sized jump in May across several lines, including Seamaster and Speedmaster, so if it's at the top end of 6% we'd be looking at rises of somewhere around 10-12% in 4 months, which is pretty damn sharp, especially given the market conditions. It's enough to have me looking elsewhere for a new diver (well, that and the current catalogue).
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think speedmasters had seen that price jump that you are mentioning from May, in America, at least not at my AD in Texas.

Enjoy it! I picked mine up two weeks ago and the “daily wind” (first thing on the morning) is still something I look forward to every day 😀
Heck yeah! I really enjoy winding my Timex Marlin 34mm in the morning and am excited for when I start wearing my Speedmaster in November!

Wishful thinking. Sorry but it doesn't work that way. Takes months for new model Rolexes to reach AD's. And when they do, they trickle in. I daresay any new release in Sept won't be in AD's until 2021 despite what some crackpot of TRF may say.
Agree 100%

So is this price hike definitely happening in the states?
I haven't seen any confirmation that the increase is coming to the US.
