Hmmm I actually contacted three US ADs and none of them was aware of an upcoming price hike. One did mention that price hikes can come with just a few days notice.

From Jan 1st until today the US$ lost around 6,1% to the swiss franc.
That might explain a (potential) price increase in certain markets.

Just been offered a 9% discount on a FOIS at my local OB if i buy before 1st Sept. I wasn't in the position yet to make this purchase but could pull out a few stops to get it over the line. Is this a good deal? Im not terribly concerned about the movement upgrade, in fact i think i would prefer the 1861 movement for servicing and tested reliability.

As I understand it, discounts at an OB are rare, but 10% at an AD are usually not difficult on unlimited editions. When I bought my SMP, it was just before the 2019 price hikes, and I couldn't find one grey market, so went with the AD. I justified it by thinking that if I waited for grey availability, the price would be about the same and there are often warranty issues when buying grey.

That said, I'd certainly shop around for that FOIS before pulling the trigger. Often when buying grey you can save on sales tax as well.

If you don’t mind going grey market - I got mine for £3100 brand new off Dominic Hackett. Very nice chap, all there including Omega Warranty etc. If he hasn’t got one, he’ll be able to source you one. Might be worth dropping him a line.

I think 9% plus [insert price hike % here] sounds pretty good for an FOIS. I did just that before the May price hike and am very happy with the watch and the AD service I received. The discount on that FOIS ended up being better than the one I received through the GM on my .005 -- minus the free straps etc. ADs can be competitive, especially on models that are popular with the WIS crowd, and I didn't see much discounting on the FOIS during the year or I so was looking.

9% from OB is really good. I ask my AD for 25% and we usually settle somewhere between 15 and 20. However, not on most special limited editions.

I bit the bullet at the weekend after years of wanting a Speedmaster Professional Sapphire Sandwich. They have gone up in price so steadily that I was going to resent the watch if I didn't buy before further price rises. I should have bought one 10 years ago! I managed to haggle 15% off the RRP at a major UK High Street AD. No mention of the price rise was made but perhaps they didn't know this (I thought it might crop up and hamper negotiations but it didn't).

Delighted with the new watch. Today is my first Speedy Tuesday. 😀

Enjoy it! I picked mine up two weeks ago and the “daily wind” (first thing on the morning) is still something I look forward to every day 😀

A price rise in September would be odd considering Rolex are releasing there new models.

Why would that make it odd? There's a fair chance that Rolex won't be lowering their prices either.

Hesselbein's in Carmel, CA is going out of business and having a sale online. The FOIS is only $3,604, probably the best deal you're gonna find. They have others at amazing prices too. I tried to pick up the Seamaster Trilogy but it sold before I could get there.

It's not the MSRP that dictates how much potential discount you can get, it is dependent on what the dealer's margin is (his cost vs MSRP). Over the years most luxury goods, including vehicles, have had the margins narrowed, ie, the dealer has less 'profit' to play with. This is to reduce the aggressive discounting that you used to see. Margins are squeezed and the number of dealers are reduced, both of which tend to make discounting less agressive.

Omega may increase the retail price by 6% next month, but are they increasing the dealer's price by the same amount, or maybe a little more, which pinches the potential discount in the future.

Rolex may be announcing their exciting new models but when they are released is a whole other matter!

Unlike Omega, Rolex tend to immediately start supplying new models to AD around the world. Provided demand outstrips supply tenfold of course.

They'll raise the prices, and the ADs will just discount more on this other side...
Local AD here in Bulgaria where i had -20% discount of everything told me that in September the prices are going up by 6-9% also they have a new policy not to make that big discounts (my 20% down is now -10%)
They told me that also customers that haven’t bought before will get 2-3% max .

Nah, they didn't make him beg just to get his name added to an imaginary waiting list while they actually had one in the safe out back.

Wishful thinking. Sorry but it doesn't work that way. Takes months for new model Rolexes to reach AD's. And when they do, they trickle in. I daresay any new release in Sept won't be in AD's until 2021 despite what some crackpot of TRF may say.
