I have not bought a watch in years but this last weekend I had to take a chance. About 40 USD of a chance. At a local auction site someone had put up a lot of promotion watches in a batch. 99 % crap and likewise was the picture. I would not have seen the auction normally but I have a standing search for "Mercedes" and got a hit on this auction.

Those of you versed in Seiko probably immediately notice the three pushers and a crown. So did I. I have a soft spot for 7a28. It is unlikely this is Seiko 7a28 and/but when I open the watch this weekend, to install a battery, I expect to see a Shimauchi V905. It is the same thing.

Got it home today and put it on a Hirsch strap I had laying around.

39mm case and 20mm between the lugs. Nice condition and it probably have not been used a lot. Enought though to ding the bezel at 9..

We will see if it gets a ride when spring turns up for real here. Had snow falling today...

I think I'm getting addicted to 1960s vintage Seikos. A package with a couple of new ones arrived this morning, so I got some of the family together for a group shot - the only one I owned more than a couple of months ago is the World Time on the far left, and even that got a new bracelet (pictured) this past week.

cheers Nathan - and far be it from me to diss Omega, but all of these watches were bought for less than the price you'd pay for a mid-70s Speedmaster. Rough estimates...

- 67 World Time 6217-7000 - had for a couple of years (拢600), got a rare and tidy bracelet at watch fair for 拢20
- 64 One-button Chronograph 45899 - on original bracelet that is very rare indeed - I've never seen another for sale (拢500)
- 64 World Time 6217-7000 - rare black dial on (rare) original bracelet (拢500)
- 64 World Time 6217-7000 - beautiful condition silver, also on original bracelet (拢500)
- 67 Diver "62MAS" 6217-8001 - swapped with another collector, for another rare watch that I bought on OF maybe 3 years ago for about 拢600
- 63 Silver Wave 50M - early version of the first Seiko diver; 拢700

Nice set! Is the Yellow one the supposed RAF Vulcan flight crew unofficial issue watch?

Love the watches and you have some good examples but the One button Cronograph 5719 8992 is a treat. This along with the 5717 8990 were released in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympics at which Seiko were the official timekeepers and 1200 of these watches were issued to officials. They were also released commercially.Does you rear case back have an embossed logo of the Olympic Flame ?
The 5719 has a chronograph track printed on the dial where the 5717 has a date complication
The black bakelite bezel is rare as they easily break and are nigh on impossible to repair. Most that broke got replaced with stainless steel bezels.
The other rare feature is the bracelet so to have this and the bezel on one watch makes that a keeper and I would suggest your estimate re its value is way too low.

The 7A38 701B aka the Vulcan, although the connection to Vulcan bomber crews seems to have originated in the fantasy of a second hand dealer who had a few he couldn鈥檛 shift rather than anywhere near a cockpit. Picked it up a couple of years ago in an uncatalogued job lot in a Sydney auction...

Baking this puppy in the sun this summer. Experiment for fun 馃檮 Get a nice fade on a Seiko that hasn鈥檛 gotten wrist time for a while. Oils may harden a bit and gasket probably will go but easy fixes.

Did think the story a bit tall. Why is a Vulcan cockpit any harder to tell the time in than any other 80's RAF kite. I could see how a Vulcan Capt may have gone out and bought 1 or 2 because he wanted him and his crew to have something a bit more colourful than their 7120's but beyond that...

Like the Yacht timer as well!
