Here's my 6309 I bought new in '78 (40 years!) and just pulled out of my drawer last week. Put a NOS Seiko strap on it and it's good to go.

Then I became so enamored by the nostalgia of it I just got one of these yesterday, from the excellent SeiyaJapan.com:

Then, I became so enamored of the new one that I just ordered one of these from Seiya:

Next order will be for some meds to put this obsession to rest!

I just got my Seamaster back from major service last week, and my Speedy is in now, but I'm obsessing about Seikos! Go figure...great watches though.

Wow, that 6309 looks great (along with the rest of them). Funny how we can have something for so long and still get so much excitement out of it.

I’m a big fan of Seiko and solar watches, but not Seiko solars. On the models you picture above, imho the quality of the bezel and bracelet is really, really low.

The bezel on my Seiko SKX is far higher quality and looks better after 8 years than the bezel on my solar after 2 years.

To show the difference, below is a pic of my SKX with bezel still basically looking new, and the solar where the paint all along the crystal has come off (on the third pic I added red lines to show the area). The bezel also sounds and feels cheap, as well as the bracelet.

Oh, and my one-family 6309 from 1982 says hello

Easter holiday gives man time to resize watch bracelet after 4 months. Thanks to George Clarkson for the tech tip.

Just in - 1977 Bell-Matic; bought unseen from a Fellows auction. Whipped the movement out, took off the crystal, popped the case into the ultrasonic, put on a new crystal and it's looking pretty good 😀

6156-7000 from 1967.
I cannot resist the bling factor of a movement.

Interesting, I will keep an eye on these new ones. For sure the bezels do not fully align, no idea why (Seiya warns of this in advance). I find the straps OK, a bit noisy but otherwise comfortable once you figure out how to adjust them without losing the little barrel inserts that hold the strap pins!

Bellmatic on whilst preparing the smoker, trying a whole chicken for tomorrow if the sun stays out. Or not!
Putting the dry rub on and doing the bbq sop mop. Receipes welcome!
