Greetings OF For sale a very clean handwind Seiko Crown Special from 1961, ref J14100, 23J cal 341. The First Grand Seiko was developed in 1960 directly from the Suwa Crown. In 1961 many of the First Grand Seiko movement features were incorporated in to the Crown Special cal 341. I have attached a good review article here to better explain the Seiko family tree. This is a very clean example with 14k gold filled case, vertical brushed light gold dial, the top Special Dial with solid gold indices. It is a very elegant dress watch quite similar in many ways to the First Grand Seiko, at a fraction of the cost. I have not worn it since purchase in 2021. Dial: SD "Special Dial" Light gold/champagne with vertical brushing, with solid gold indices, no date, original gold dagger hands and center sweep. Text all intact, 8-pointed SD Special dial logo. Excellent condition Case: 14k 80- micron gold filled case, with intact caselines including angled crease on lugs visible in photos. Type 2 Model J14100E case. See linked review article for details. Some minor wear but overall very good condition. Snap on caseback closes well, with engraved script intact. Serial number: 1811138, dating to August 1961 Movement: Seikosha 23J cal 341 clean and running well, keeping good vintage time. Very similar to First Grand Seiko movement. Serviced by seller when I bought it in 2021, but no detailed records. While I have no reason to doubt the service by seller who I know, still best to consider as "service history unknown" without detailed records. Crown: Signed, coarse knurled, I believe original, but cannot be certain. Looks very similar to First Grand Seiko crown Crystal: Probably replaced acrylic, no scratches or cracks noted, clear very good. Bracelet: Near-new brown leather with croc pattern, only worn for photos. Asking Price: USD $500 including shipping to CONUS and Canada. Shipping elsewhere to be adjusted based on cost.
