And if anyone in northern NJ needs work done, I can highly recommend Wesley Jewelers in Upper Montclair, NJ. Ken is honest and as he told me today, he does what’s best for the customer, not for him.

I had mentioned that my self-winding Girard Perregaux (I keep it on a winder) was losing about 5 minutes a month and did I need to get it serviced.

He asked how often I wore it and I said once or twice a month. He said then adjust the time whe I do wear it. Not worth it if it’s strictly a dress watch worn infrequently. Nice to find honest people out there still.

Right so some other pics per request. The 1926 Hamilton pocketwatch and the Girard Perregaux that my mom gave my dad as a wedding gift. Dunno what year, all I know is she sold her Mercedes convertible for the watch.

Let me know if your ever in south Florida. My watch maker will have your caliber 861 in top shape for under 500.00 and respecting all of its original attributes.
I'm in North Florida, mind pm'ing me your watchmakers info?

Absolutely do NOT let Omega work on your grandfather's watch. The cosmetic replacements and refinishing will have a negative impact on the value of the watch, not that you would ever part with such a treasure.

Get the watch back and have the work done by an independent watchmaker who is familiar with vintage Omegas. I'm sure members can give you some recommendations.

I totally agree with you. Don't go for official Omega Service, or you will get back all service parts.
I think your (amazing) Speedy just need to be cleaned up, serviced by a private horologist and maybe a glass polish.
Show us a better quality pic after the work is done 😉

Work your way through. Got it back this weekend with all original parts intact.
