··Nowhere near as grumpy as he used to be...
I’d make sure it’s on the work order. Not insulting the guy just to protect your self in regards to dial and hands.
Please consider donating to help offset our high running costs.
So my list stands as such for the work order:
1) Movement service
2) Polish crystal
3) Ultrasonic cleaning of case & bracelet - DO NOT POLISH EITHER OF THEM
4) Do not change dial, hands, or bezel
5) Do not relume or clean the dial
6) All Replaced parts returned to me
7) Adjust bracelet to my wrist
8) Appraisal of watch
Here's hoping it won't cost me an arm and a leg! Thanks again, folks and have a Happy Thanksgiving if you're celebrating!

@Tarkus697 Learned well, you have. ;-)
No harm in getting an appraisal, but unless the place you are taking it is very unusual, they will probably give it a value of the "equivalent" modern replacement. Very few places have the ability or desire to provide a market value appraisal of a collectible vintage watch. Talk to your insurance agent about what he/she will require to insure it for actual replacement value. You will most likely need a rider on your homeowner's policy.
Perfect...
If you want an insurance appraisal they can do it. But market value is around 6-9k on bracelet. Need better pictures to give a stronger value.
$695.50 later and she’s back with me. No parts needed replacing except for the gasket, which had dissolved due to age. One full disassembly, major cleaning, crystal polish, and mechanical service later and she’s running like a champ!
Thanks for all the advice, gang! Looking forward to my new daily driver!
Thanks for posting a follow up. I enjoy seeing the end result from these stories about grandfather watches.
Your original bid stated the hands would be replaced. Did they end up cleaning them up and not replacing? It is hard to tell from the original pic.
