Hello all! I just made an almost impulse purchase and would like more information about it (cue the snickers and comments). The dial looked ok to me so I figured I'd take a chance since I've been lusting for a black honeycomb for the box and hadn't seen any that I could afford until lately. From my research I'm thinking the Ref # is a gold capped version of the 2761. Of course, I'll be able to find out when it arrives, but any input now would be appreciated!

Here's my 2761 with white honeycomb dial for comparison.

You’re likely correct on ref. It’s a nice, original watch. The box is very cool.. don’t recall seeing this one.

In my research (more AFTER the purchase) I have found prices all over the map from a few hundred to around 2k. Did I do ok at just over $1,000?

I would pay that for that watch. You don't come by original black dials that nice often.

That's what I felt. The color, texture and crosshair sealed the deal. I did go an extra $150 over my original bid limit but I feel good about it.

I think that you did well. I paid $1,300 for this black waffle dial Seamaster.

Is the buckle period/model correct? I know the strap is a modern replacement, but I like it a lot

Why do you say that? Both strap and buckle look roughly period correct to me.

I'm so used to seeing "textured" straps on vintage I guess I didn't know what to look for! Truthfully, I spent so much time worrying about the case/dial etc I hadn't given any thought to the strap/buckle. The more I look at the whole the more I like it!
