I’m starting to investigate the early Seamaster’s and trying to get a handle on the in’s & outs as well as the market price range. I have gotten to know the later 60’s SM’s pretty well with the help of the collective, but I’m still in the woods with these earlier ones. I love the ones with the recessed second sub-dial, but am not opposed to this style either- but have no clue which is earlier or later or which is more abundant. Many seem to have stainless cases with gold indices/hands, and the all stainless seem to come up less frequently so it seems. Anyone care to shed something light on that for me?

So that said, this one is on the bay, looks a little road worn but honest and seems to be in serviceable shape. Dial seems pretty original to me and the little flaws on it aren’t horrible so I could live with that (and the seller considers it flaws, not patina ). Price seems a little high to me (probably why it’s still there), but the prices seem all over the map for these depending on different variations, so a rough guide on pricing these would help me in my search.

Anyone care to weigh in on it this particular any red flags? What is fair value on a watch like this?
