Thanks so much! All of those options look awesome, but I think I'm leaning towards the red.

The red is for sure the one to go for I think. Wasn't too confident what it would look like with the silver dial, so I opted for more conservative options...... Regretting it now though, so will probably order one.

Don't own any other rubber straps, so no reference point, but these appear excellent, great quality and an absolutely perfect fit. Bit tricky to install - you have to use the second, smaller set of spring bar holes for the flush fit, but once in - very secure.

SCUBA diving ... breathing ... some sort of connection.
"Apnea" is simply the holding of breath – in medical terms, it does have a fair amount to do with sleep issues, but it's also a more commonly used term for breath-holding in the ocean.

I've always wanted one of these (particularly with the white dial) as I'm a certified freediver, but as others have indeed pointed out, it's a thicc boi, and I never seem to find one with the right price or in the right unpolished condition.

Not the intended use but great legibility!

Moved some more tonnage with mine tonight. I've been holding off on purchases during Covid, but I think I'm going to go order that red Zealande strap. I've got a birthday coming up. Gonna treat myself. Thanks for for the recommendation @amiriqbal!

Been wearing the apnea on the rubber strap since I got them. Definitely the preferred way to wear it and can't recommend the zealande step highly enough. Fits like an OEM option.

PS

Still loving the black dial!! Red defo the way to go for straps.... Going to get one also

Apnea, now with red Zealande strap! It's already improved my enjoyment of the watch. It feels great on the wrist and really helps reduce the perceived size/weight of what is admittedly a pretty bulky watch. Thanks again for the recommendation @amiriqbal! If thiswatch were 2-3mm slimmer and had a contemporary ceramic bezel, I think it would be my everyday wearer.

Like the OP said, the Zealande fits as well as an OEM strap. A bit crazy to spend so such on a rubber strap, but I'm glad I did it. I wish the keepers were reinforced like the current Omega rubber straps, but I guess that's why Omega gets to charge $400 for their version. 🙄

I now want one of these for the same reason I want a Breitling Cosmonaute: the sheer joy of explaining it to disbelieving friends.

Passionate and very active freediver here (breath-hold diving). I absolutely love this watch; the red strap looks very handsome too!

Currently in the worldwide freediving community, most participants admittedly do make use of digital watches with very precise depth gauges and alarms to indicate specific points in the freediver's descent and ascent, as well water temperature, surface interval timing etc – info that is vital to successful freediving performances (brands like Suunto, Mares, Cressi-Sub etc hold market share).

But, freediving is now well established as a competitive and recreational sport, it's not hard to envision Omega and other manufacturers coming out with additional timepieces (similar to this awesome Omega Apnea) catering specifically to individuals who are both freedivers and watch enthusiasts, and who would appreciate a purely mechanical movement (with depth gauge) to accompany them down into the depths. I truly hope so!

Bear in mind that this watch was launched in the early 2000s.

Omega have not made another free-diving watch.

And watch enthusiasts are not their target market... we don't buy enough watches for our opinions to matter. 😉

That would be awesome, but I wouldn't hold my breath! ::rimshot::

I can now confirm that the spiffy red strap makes the bar move faster.
