Rolex Waiting List

Actually you do build a relationship with the guy at the petrol station, a while back the UK had a fuel strike, I had been a regular at the local petrol station for years, knew staff very well, as a result I had fuel whenever I needed it, and he allowed the company I worked for to fill up their vehicles so we could keep our business going, so yeh building a relationship helps.
That's a little different where I live. I have no idea who is at the petrol station nor do I ever talk to anyone when filling up my car.

Understand relationships, have one with my local tackle shop, but if he doesn’t have the lure I want I’m looking at the three other tackle shops local and he’s good with that. He would usually tell me which one has it.
Doesn’t make me buy 3 pink and blue lures just to be able to buy a green and orange one that I want.

For me a better way to think about it is: there was a time when I would build relationships with the vendor from whom I purchased my fresh fruit and vegetables or the garage guy, or the guy I purchased car tires from. These days with the large grocery stores, box stores and self serve gasoline stations I'm more interested in developing relationships with my trash hauler, the guy who cuts my grass and plows my road in the winter and local convenience store manager. At least he'll special order beer for me and keep a few 6 packs in reserve. The plow guy makes sure I can get to the beer guy. The trash guy gets rid of the evidence. The circle of life.

have fun

Funny but true......

Ah, pay at pump? If so the UK is heading that way as well, but my example was a few years back when paying and chatting to the attendant was normal practice.

These days, I think it's quite unusual to have a need to develop a relationship with a sales associate in a conventional retail setting, which is why I find some of the responses in this thread so amusing. Some Rolex fanboys seem so grateful to get a mass-produced watch that they think it's normal to kiss the retailer's backside. It's ridiculous. I'm perfectly willing to be courteous and polite to everyone in any store, but I really only establish relationships with people providing personal services to me, not salespeople selling generic items.

Brexit may see you needing to chat to your attendant again.....😗

That’s correct, but it was the 40mm when it was offered.

👎

this is like a “who’s on first” routine

Haha.. had to google. I wasn’t ready for the no date that was offered so speaking with my AD recently I asked for the new 41mm. Sometime next year was my response. They’re very transparent. But as stated in one of my previous posts, I could get one tomorrow or next dec.

I would speculate that this particular one is the new shiny Rolex toy so the list is substantially longer than its predecessor, but I would also argue generally the date option is the preferred variant so no-date has less interest and thus being more available.

I asked for the new 41mm...

The new case design is, in my opinion and for my $, a significant improvement over the prior tank-case.

but I would also argue generally the date option is the preferred variant so no-date has less interest and thus being more available.

*COMPLETE SPECULATION WARNING* -> I would suspect that, as far as supply there are fewer Subs than Sub-Dates, and as far as demand plenty of Sub purists, for their to be some parity with the supply-demand on the Sub-Dates

It’s eggplant city

Lovely watch 👍

On the Sub v Sub Date debate, there are more people buying the Sub Date simply because it is far more practical as a daily wear, if you are going to get just one Rolex the Sub Date will fulfil most roles the owner requires of it, it can do smart for the office, casual for the weekend and cope perfectly well in the pool or the sea whilst on holiday.

So a mate of mine bought a 116613 last year from our local AD. It was his first ever 'good' watch.
In Feb this year he put himself on the waiting list for a Batman, knowing it would take a year to get.
Last Thursday he went in to buy a 28mm Datejust for his wife. Whilst there he asked about the New Pepsi. The AD asked which one he was more keen on - BLNR or BLRO. He said the Pepsi.
Dealer got it in for him and he collected it today.
He's been popping in every month or so, staying in touch and he got treated better than anyone I've heard of so far — 4 working days to get a new GMT Master.

Wow, thats a quick pick up, the BLRO will be my next Rolex if I'm lucky and my AD decides that I am top of the 'list' for it, it will complete my LSA collection. But if the AD leaves it too long my interest in a Grand Seiko GMT may gather pace. But I agree with the 'keep popping in' mentality, I'm sure that this is why I managed to get the new Submariner in the first few weeks following launch.

Lol. It's literally this I was talking about. Hope he enjoys his new collection though.

I bought my first modern Rolex, an Explorer 1, in the summer. At the same time I put my name down for a Sub and got the call a couple of days ago.

While collecting today I said I was surprised at getting the call after 6 months as I thought it’d be a couple or three years. The chap (who was a great btw) simply said they get calls all day from London and other countries but for the most desired modes such as Subs, GMTs, Daytona’s etc, they prioritise existing customers who live locally. Even though I’d only made one prior purchase, I was now a known customer and as it’s my local AD, my name simply made it to the top.

Congratulations on the new watch, how about some pictures of the new beauty? 😀

My expectations were also based in years when I asked for a Submariner, mine took 3 weeks which was very very surprising, if you don't mind me asking whereabouts is your AD based?

My experience recently was I went to my local AD were I purchased my DJ41 from 3 years ago. I spoke to the sales person that sold me my DJ, luckily she still worked there.
I was enquiring about a no date sub for my birthday next year. She had one there for me to look at and try on, so she added my name to the list and promised me that she will have one in for me before my birthday.
Nothing but great service from this AD.

But I did a similar enquiry in another well known AD were i have no buying history and I was told no chance, pretty much laughed at and was told not even worth putting my name on the list. Because of that they wouldn't get a penny of my money for anything.

AD is Mappin and Webb in York, UK and Ive got to say they're great. It's the only place I'll be going for new watches from now on.

Congratulations on a lovely watch.

I have to wait for my birthday next year to get mine, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

How strange mine came from Mappin and Webb as well, but Bluewater, now in tier 4 and closed 🙁

Great staff and great service from M&W, happy to get future watches from them.

Well just got the call for a date-sub. Only took a month since I asked for a 41. But unfortunately it's a date.. so might pass and keep waiting on the no-date. Decisions decisions.. feel like the no-date is a more elegant piece.
