I don't think I've met a sunburst dial I didn't like, wish more of these watches had them. The new DJ31 has some interesting sunburst dial colors including a grey, green, pink & purple.

Why the double baton on OP though? Yuck...

I think the double baton is a hint to the 369 on the explorer and other OPs but I am not sure.

I don't agree with you at all. A LOT of people do. No date, clean dial, and now the same size as an Aqua Terra. Not too expensive.... And they sell well.

If no one cared about it I doubt the most significant additions in decades would all be on that line.

Agree. I'd expect the OP and DJ to be their best-selling lines. Perhaps not the most lucrative, but certainly crucial to overall brand presence and the bottom line. And the waiting lists for staple OP models seem to reflect that.

I like the new OPs. Much of the attention of the watch press has focused on how amazing the Submariner’s new 3230 movement is. Well, for roughly half the price of the sub you can get a black OP (if color is not your thing) with the same exact movement. That’s a pretty good value, speaking in relative terms.

Next year will be a good one with the explorer 2 getting a facelift. Hopefully they don’t ruin it!

Agreed, hopefully back to a 40mm case and none of that ridiculous ceramic bezel idea

Does the latest Pepsi iteration have the same case dimensions as the outgoing 40mm sub? Ignoring depth of the case of course.

Unfortunately I am almost sure that they will do a ceramic bezel, MAYBE a flat one, to be different

but ceramic is probably a sure thing

I myself want to buy a explorer 2 black dial before it gets the ceramic update

I think that is one of the last of the “true tool” watches

Roughly half? In Europe the Sub 124060 costs 7.700 euro, while the OP41 124300 costs 5.600 euro. That is far more than half, moreover, you could say that the Sub is ‘only’ about 2k more expensive.

Ok the new Sub is $8,100, the 41mm OP is $5,900 and the 36mm OP (same 3230 movement) is $5,600. So the 36 mm version (the one I would be interested in) is 70% of the cost of the Sub. I still think my point holds that the OP represents good value given that it is 70% of the cost of the Sub.

There are many ways in which a watch can be bigger or smaller. A simple factor manufacturers seem not to like supplying is weight.
Weight is a significant factor, for me anyway, especially since I prefer sports watches on a bracelet.

Price is nice on the OP41mm I am seriously considering one.

The submariner shape certainly looks like an improvement over the previous version which never interested me, I always thought the SDc was the nicest of all the sports models from the last decade but would be keen to try a Submariner date for comparison but the chances of that are probably about as high as my local AD giving me a call about a gmt in stock for me

Someone needs to show the Rolex design team some of these watches. This is the level they need to be at. The new offererings are exceptionally weak and uninspired. They'll be successful because of the power of the brand but will never go down in history as legendary designs.

I had an OP 39 and sold it after a year and a half, every time I looked at it I saw a Swatch watch from my youth. I did love the second hand a great deal but not enough to keep it.

There is nothing in the new line up that excites me, just like there is nothing really in the whole Rolex line up I am lusting after. There was a period where I followed the crowd and seriously considered a Daytona but now with the new Speedy 321 EW I am firmly in that camp.

I am still on the fence when it comes to the Hulk and Kermit models, I love the green in them and being Irish they should match all the green clothing we Irish normally wear (football, rugby.....). I purchased a couple of green watches from Steinhart and Toc to see how green looked on me and the results were not great. I may have to accept green is not my colour or I need to expand my wardrobe from just having blue or black clothes.

“You know that's what he really wanted to say”:whipped:

I agree that the more well known people in the watch community often toe the line, seemingly to appease the brands.

But we all know that new and the departing ceramic subs are just basics as a WIS. Wei wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a new sub except as a gesture to the brand. If he were wearing a sub it might be a double red? Maybe a comex? Maybe an explorer dial? But not just a sub. He’s doing the review for his audience, not for himself.

You now need giant meat hooks to wear a Sub....:whipped:

Apparently the increase in diameter is only 0.31mm.

Beautiful! What reference is the watch in the middle?

Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter what us purists think of the new release, demand is still gonna be high as usual.
