Rolex Daytona waiting list

I think it would be literally impossible to buy one at an AD, unless you have a stellar relationship with that AD. And then it will be a long matter of time.

I haven't heard of anyone requiring a deposit... besides the oddball story of a "well, buy something here and we'll see what we can do..." 🤮

I doubt they'd take your money. A normal AD is getting a couple a year, and you'll be the 3rd person that day who has come in (or called in) asking for one.

I put my name down at an AD that I have a decent purchasing & personal history with *the very day it was announced*, and I got it around 18 months later.

But hey, I don't want to be discouraging. Go in, start talking, build up a bit of a personal relationship. I mean, stop by from time to time to browse and then ask about what they've been getting. There's so such thing as a truly ordered "list". If they get one and someone drops out and you come to mind, you'll be next.

you pay retail?

The previous model Daytona had a modified Zenith El Primero in it for over a decade. Up until this version Rolex never had an in-house automatic chronograph. Some of the manual winds didn’t have Rolex movements either if I remember.

The Daytona waiting period started with the Zenith version as Zenith only sold them a limited number of movements a year.
Sounds interesting. Thanks for the answer.

I'm in love with my Daytona, it took me a long wait, but in the end I got it, it's my favorite of all the Rolex I have.

Forgive my ignorance but... wasn’t it Paul Newman who was famous for the Rolex Daytona?
Steve McQueen wore a sub and had ties to Heuer and the Monaco???

But there is a Rolex called the Steve McQueen which he never owned or wore... so there is that. It’s the 1655

yup, those names stick too or they seem to depending on how they get them.

Yes, retail, no markup. I have gotten discounts on Rolex before, but it didn’t really seem appropriate to ask in this case... 😉

Are regular ADs marking these up? I would think Rolex would prevent that.

Just saying... If you put your name down as Boner P you may never get off the waiting list... ::facepalm1::

My brother just picked one up (see picture against my FOIS). He was 18 months waiting on the blue dial Sky-dweller going nowhere, so they cut him a deal to jump the line on a Daytona. Amazing looking watch.

Great watch! They probably allowed him to jump ship as they are having so much trouble getting the blue colour to take to the dial. Apparently will not be able to release any until March???

Believe it or not they told him it could take another 6 years before he takes delivery of his already ordered blue Sky-Dweller, hence the switch to the Daytona. I think the waiting list on the Daytona is 3 years, so he's done OK waiting only 18 months.

Really impressed with the sizing of the Daytona. You know you get some 40mm watches and they look huge but this looked perfectly mid sized.

Well i popped into my local and they only take orders with a local postcode. Apparently there are up to 30 others on his list and he thinks 4-5 years is to be expected but on occasion they do receive a couple at a time so may be slightly less.
Names down, but won't hold my breath. What a great experience from my local jewellers. Good people with great knowledge.

How can you get into rolex if new customers are treated like a second class
?
There are quite some other watches you could try first to get in to Rolex....
it is just a availibility and demand game, and to be honest, i understand that policy is to deliver regular/loyal customers first in stead of someone passing buy, ordering it and after pick-up never to be seen again. I think it is a difficult task of placing these certain watches with the right people. At the end, there are always more people disappointed then happy.

I can imagine this is a very frustrating process, even more so when the gray market can be a process that doesnt seem on the level. Is it dumb in thinking that there might be some availability at certain boutiques when traveling abroad?
Seems that way with Omegas.

You could be lucky on some airports or at tourist places where it is difficult to work woth lists but to be honest, i dont think there is a chance you’ll find one in a window or on a shelf.

You are probably speaking more truth that I have observed(most times at AD overseas they had better stuff behind and under the counter)

Like the Speedy Tuesday, I suspect there’s a difference between how many people are willing to sign up to be in a waiting list and how many are willing to plunk down the needed coin when a watch becomes available.

A family friend was showing his new Daytona white-face on Christmas Day. He wasn’t on any waiting list but does purchase a fair number from his local preferred AD. At any rate, they offered it to him somewhat out-of-the blue and he decided to go for it.

Lighting wasn’t great but here it is, and a shot with it next to my Exp II for reference (apologies for not wiping my smudges from the PCL’s... while I find the overall dial attractive and the 40mm size with narrow bezel a nice combo, I think the bracelet should be entirely brushed to make it a better package as a sports watch)
