For Collector’s Week here on Fratello, I thought it would be nice to tell you about collecting Speedmasters. I’ve been doing so since 1999. My personal Speedmaster collection began here on this forum just a few months ago. I was able to pick up a practically new hesalite 3681 from another member that marked my 40th. I love the look and feel of the new watch and the fact that I don’t have to worry about wearing it wherever and whenever I want. I hope to mark my 50th with a 105.012, my personal Speedy grail. With any luck between now and then I hope I can add a racing dial Mark II 145.014 and a Mark “4.5” 176.0012 just because I like them. I know prices are going up and I’m getting in on this journey late and I could complain about that but instead I’ll try to just be realistic and save more of my watch budget towards these that have a very special place in my heart.

I mention this every few months or so in there posts that we pull in from Fratello’s RSS feed but OF literally was just a tiny nothing place until RJ gave it some exposure and an influx of people way back in the early days.

A fine October Friday afternoon In Paris 7th after lunch….. Stumble slightly tipsy into a Paris vintage dealer owned by a colleagues’s brother. Discover the Tri-Compax which said owner refuses to sell. As a consolation prize, walk out with a scruffy but still well loved 2998-6 that his brother pried out of his hands for me.

I'll probably be stoned.... but if you have a moonwatch...your collection is complete.
While attractive, functional and historical, there is a an entire universe beyond the moon.
