Having had time to think and review the sale, I think the seller and the auction house rushed this watch to market.
Most of the watches that sold at this auction sold over estimate, the speedmasters were noticeably under - but they were all just a little bit off.
I do think the 2915 would have done better at a bigger house. Or even a private sale. This watch was simply not marketed.
Honest question, not being a smartass: I often wonder, what do the majority of people who spend this type of money (or even more as we've seen with other examples) on 60-year-old watches actually do with them once they have in-hand? Would you actually wear a Speedmaster like this, or does it just get displayed in a collection, or what?
I guess you can ask why do people buy super cars, private jets or luxury boats... Simply to enjoy them (piece of history, rarity or simply because mere mortals cannot afford them) or to show off their wealth.

Obviously. Except in the case of expensive vintage watches, I simply wonder if people actually wear them, or they just put them in a safe and look at them twice a year.
I have a good friend w 8 figures in watches and he wears them all. I am sure there are plenty of big collections that sit in safes and cases as well
