To add to that Scapas list, I would like a bit more water resistance too.

For what reason, 50m is enough to swim with!

@scapa the 3861 is metas

first watch worn is already on the 861/1861 which was not worn on the moon. (Went around the moon as part of a non NASA designed experiment)

I think it will depend on what they do. I personally feel a ceramic bezel takes away from the classic look and makes it more modern.

AML just looks better.

Yes. I find that the subtler approach works a treat, whilst avoiding undue offence.

I'm interested to know if there's a consensus on which updates to the Speedy Pro are considered desirable. Do most really want:
- A METAS certified but non-NASA flight qualified 3861 movement?
- Sapphire rather than hesalite crystal?
- Applied logo and/or indices?
- A ceramic bezel?
- White enamel tachymètre?
- A Naiad-lock caseback?
- No "First watch worn on..." lettering?
- EDIT: 100m WR

It seems like only a few of the above would be likely to make it into a revamped Speedy Pro, and at least some of those would break the line of continuity from the original Moonwatches. Just wondering which of the updates appeal to the community here.
Don’t forget a clasp with micro adjustment!

Gossip from my local store;

3861 will be the new Speedy from summer 2021, Omega's focus is on Snoopy at the moment, the new Moonwatch will have a display back.

Conversation started after I pulled my Snoopy deposit and we were chatting about me wanting a watch with a good display back, the 321 I have 'interest' in will be delivered on the 12th of Never, so the store manager said don't rush wait until summer next year and go for the new Speedy, its going to have the 3861, a display back and the movement is being designed to look good through the caseback, its manual wind so no rotor to obscure the view.

No other info just this.

Very interesting -- thanks for sharing.

...Although it looks like the biggest news may have been in your opening line -- you went ahead and pulled your Snoopy deposit? Not there yet, but the revised Moonwatch you describe would be a pretty sweet consolation prize.

Yep, pulled Snoopy, I was down to get one that was confirmed when I was in the store. Simply, I couldn't warm to the watch. Now Omega, if we could have just the 3861 movement, the blue and white (Silver) dial, blue bezel and a Sapphire case back, I would be knocking the door down to get one.

No point in buying something that I don't like, and I'm not into flipping so decided to let the watch pass and save my money for something else.

Actually we've been hearing discontinuation murmurings on this forum of the 1861 for a while now. Also its very difficult to come by an in store speedy hestalite and sapphire sandwich, it could be due to Covid or it could be due to the planned discontinuation.

It makes sense if they discontinue, Omega have not released a new speedy with the with 1861 since the 2018. It could be they're phasing it out every speedy since 18 has had a different base.

As might I. Especially at, say, current Speedy Pro prices + 1000.00 - 1500.00. I'm really not bothered about a ceramic bezel, really, but an upgraded movement and variety of colourways, as with the old 40mm Racing series or 2018 SMP Divers, would be massive sellers, I expect.

All that said, I love my FOIS, and it's pretty much perfect for my needs and has some room for customization down the line. So long live the 1861.

I’m so happy I took the plunge on a new hesalite Speedmaster last year. The thing for me with this watch is that you basically get a brand new vintage watch! Adding sapphire front and back and ceramic moves it away from that. Adding a movement not certified by NASA ie the 3861 also makes it a NON moonwatch for me. It’s going to be very interesting how they market any replacement for the hesalite watch.

Bought mine last year as well, maybe I should stop wearing it, wrap it in cotton wool and hide it away, still have all the bits for it, so yes a new vintage watch if the gossip I heard comes true. 😁

I'm sure Omega has done their market research and I suspect that the 'flight qualified' status really isn't a 'must have' feature with most new buyers, As long as they keep the basic look and function (hand wound) but update the movement, put sapphire front and back, and use an updated bracelet this will be ok with the market. It still has some DNA with the current and older models.

I agree as an enthusiast, but I think Omega might perceive this as a problem with the speedmaster image. Old school build and materials can't justify further price increases. I think they'd market a ceramic / sapphire / 3861 speedmaster in the same way as a number of their other model lines - a new update and refinement of the model, with a heftier price tag to match...

I already have one, that is 5 years old now, and enjoying wearing it often. I'm contemplating buying another, while it's in stock, for my next generation...

I just hope Omega don’t turn out like the new Rolex. Greedy people scrambling all over each other to make profit. Not a single new Submariner in an AD yet plenty on chrono at double prices. I should thank them actually as it’s this that turned me off Rolex and made me walk next door and buy my Speedmaster.

I hope so too, if Omega wants to build their brand, they will need to find a good balance between prestige, availability and service without isolating new customers and or customers from different backgrounds.

Hopefully omega will not forget this, they're more than just a brand for status recognition, they're an ideal and example of what hardwork and ingenuity can achieve, that is what attracted me to the brand.

Speedmaster 1861 with hesalite is Omega,s bread and butter Speedmaster.

They will bring out all the 321s, 3861s, LEs, FOISs, Ceramic DSOTMs, Racing’s that people will buy and they have.
They may bring out a 3861 to replace the sapphire sandwich and that’s all.

But until it’s released by Omega that the 1861 is getting phased out it’s all just hearsay and forum talk.

You don’t stop making the number 1 selling Speedmaster.

300 million people can't spell colour or Aluminium but we try our best to tolerate it.

‘I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that until about 150 years ago the British scientific community frequently used “aluminum” and then they were the ones which changed the “acceptable” spelling to “aluminium” and the Americans merely retained the original spelling. I believe this to be one of the few actual cases where America’s English is more English than the English 😁

There is a well known/well defined word for this kind of 'information':
