Times finally come. At 57, I am too old and put out to pasture. I have no idea what I am going to do with myself. More time for my first original passion I guess, world Art History. My fascination with watch history is really about art from the Renaissance to early 20th century.

I have a second passion, I love the complexity of the derivatives market. Vertical Debit Back Ratio Spreads, Naked Weekly Underwrites, complex Black-Scholes models and the Greeks. This was my ultimate inspiration and so was one of my favorite movie characters Gordon Gekko.

"Greed is Good" -- Gekko

This article has incorrectly identified Gekko's watch, it was the Santos Carrée OR Massif.
This 1980s watch is really hard to find the correct version in a complete set. So I got the modern version. Still it was unavailable in my part of the world so my nearest flagship boutique placed an order to New York (Wall Street?) to get me one.

I know I am in the wrong subforum, but what fun is it writing to complete strangers?

This was the last one available in my location, I got to see someone else's watch. It's not Massif but it is massive, "Greed is Good" right?
Who knew Gekko's watch would get weaponized? And some may not know, Cartier will happily make you any kind of watch band you want in a rainbow of could be over 40 some colors. They have a box of leather samples that reminds you of a handmade cobbler. My band maybe done in 3-4 months?

So there you have it Lépine's "Wall Street" watch 🤣 And no, I'm not that small that I can make a lady's watch look normal. The Santos De Cartier Large is almost Weems size 47mm.

After wearing Lindberg and Weems, anything Cartier smaller feels inappropriate for a pilot watch.

Congrats ! I like your « wild » choice ;-)
Thank you! It was kind of funny going into the Cartier boutique which is not always a nice experince. You've seen the "Oldest Longines" video so everyone here knows what I really look like. Imagine that an old guy like me trying to get passed the security guard!

"No I am sorry, I didn't make an appointment..."
"But the store is completely empty..."
"I have to line up? But, there is no line..."
"The appointments are all full..."

Reminds me of when I went to the IWC boutique to get a watch band made for my WW2 B-Uhren. A Ref 531, "Sir we can only sell to genuine IWC watches. I can recommend down on B1 of this mall there is a battery replacement store that also sells fine watch straps..."

I just don't look like I belong

Well, someone took pitty on me "Lois", and she asked me what I wanted to see. I was taken to the "Must De Cartier" collection (all gold plated and batteries). Next time no cardigan and Sketchers shoes.

Nice watches. One of the best quotes on 1987 Wall Street:

  • Lou: The main thing about money, Bud, is that it makes you do things you don't want to do.

Interesting to admire Gordon Gekko, one of the most despicable characters ever written, based in part on Ivan Boesky. Sorry, but I couldn't get past that part of the post to even look at the photos.

Ah please don't take that too seriously. I no more aspire to be him than Bernie Maddolf or Donald Trump. But the idea of making it big on Wall Street without causing the SEC to come down for a talk to us on how it was done, seems like an objective. If we can get Gordon Gekko performance without getting into too grey an area of Ethics, seems like a fun way to spend the wee hours?

These are all military issued. Five of the watches were in the following books and magazines.
The Black one has never been in a magazine and frankly it isn't much of an interesting piece.
These watches except for the black one were in WW2. They were issued to the USA, Japan, Italy, and the Netherlands militaries.

It's a great looking watch. Not as heavy as it looks and doesn't have a hard time hiding under a shirt. Not too big, very comfortable for a watch this big.
