I am a relatively new watch enthusiast and a proud owner of a Hesalite Speedy! Love Omega and love that this forum exists!

I remember as a kid, seeing my dads 1964/1965-ish Omega watch in his safe. Fast forward 30+ years now that I’m into watches, I asked him where it was so we could appreciate it together. He said he lost it and did miss it.

Through some detective work with my mom and asking curiosity questions to my dad, I narrowed down that he had a Seamaster ref. 166.032, which I read was manufactured in the sixties. I found a few on the grey market that I’m sitting through as it doesn’t seem too rare. I wanted to secure one, service/restore as needed, and surprise him on Father’s Day with it.

Here are my questions:
1) I’m in Los Angeles..any recommended omega watchmakers to have it inspected, and/or serviced/restored? tried forum search to no avail

2) I would love to deliver it in a vintage 1960’s omega watch box and through spelunking, found a few on eBay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1552615592...1Mk0WB-Qs6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Not sure if that’s era-accurate. I could get one more worn if I wanted the true vintage effect but just trying to nail down what the style of box delivered in the 60’s

3) Anything else to be mindful of that I may be missing?

thanks in advance!!

There are some good examples in Japan at the moment at good prices because the Yen is so weak, this concentric dial is decent: https://www.ebay.com/itm/255761909717

As is this sparkle dial: https://www.ebay.com/itm/255910584856

That box is from the 1990s, the vintage boxes are much older than that are more eclectic in shape and style.
Good eye. I bought the first one because of that exact reason. I just need to figure out where to get it serviced and cleaned.

Thank you on the box feedback. It did look a bit too “new” for the 60’s 😀

Just chiming in to say that I've bought from that dealer a couple of times, and I think I got an honest piece at a pretty great price. Strong dollar + weak yen = fun.

appreciate that! Just made payment. Bought through chrono24 (they had it cross posted on eBay). Felt a bit better with the escrow and authenticity guarantee. I feel like I got a heck of a deal for this omega and my dad is gonna be so happy!

That’ll be a nice one for your dad, there are lots of independents in the US that can handle a Calibre 75x, try to get one that is Omega certified with an Omega parts account so you know you’re getting the correct movement parts, OEM crystal and seals and it should be great.

I hope it works out for you. That's such a great gift to be able to give your dad. If only my dad collected watches (or anything!). Would make getting him presents so much easier.

Welcome to the forum and echoing other members here that is a really wonderful gift for your father!

I'm also in the LA area and I have a similar reference to you 166.032 that I had locally serviced at Feldmar in the Mid-Wilshire area. My 166.028 was in good working order and did not require a full overhaul due to a recent service, that was performed prior to my purchase, I was comfortable to having them service the watch. If I recall correctly they have an Omega parts account too should any more extensive work be needed. If you decide that you'd like to go check them out or want some more info, feel free to PM and I'd be happy to share my contact there as well as some before and after photos of my watch to help you get a sense of the work they did.
