18K Solid gold Omega Geneve Calibre 601 hand-wound dress watch going off in 4 hours, currently only $494, quite nice condition, non-luminous dial and hands and Swiss case. It’s one’s of those watches you can irritate the hell out of people by calling “a calatrava” but at a discount price 😀

Went for $680. Anyone get it?

A solid 18k gold Swiss mechanical watch for that price… when you look at it like that it’s a crazy good deal. Plus the condition is really nice.

In my opinion, $680 is not expensive for a gold Genève but not a crazy good deal either. The watch is a very basic model with an austere, light weight case and a wrong crown. But yeah, compared to modern solid gold Swiss watches the price is low.

I think its pretty decent considering its an 18K Omega of any sort but yea, the steel or gold ones go for 250-350 with Cal 601, so around double isn’t bad for 18K in nice condition, and while its a simple watch its by no means ugly or dated, just not as fancy as a piepan though at a vastly reduced price.

This is a really nice condition steel hidden crown under the beat up crystal, will look terrific after its cleaned up. The fact that its not a piepan will keep the price down but its a beautiful dial regardless.

This Connie’s going off tomorrow, still only $330 and the bad photos and crystal might keep it fairly modest price wise

When you look at gold Certinas of the same era, it's hard to see the value proposition. IMO, a lot of these entry level Omegas serve no other purpose than being a relatively affordable way to put an Omega logo on your wrist.

Yea Certinas just don’t do much for me, the entry level Geneves with the Cal 601/613 movements are actually pretty good watches, it’s very rare that the movements need much of anything parts wise and tend to be extremely dependable while the simple cases still look attractive and modern. There’s definitely something to them being a real Omega in that price range too so I won’t pretend that doesn’t factor in, they can be a stepping stone into greater things down the line, but in general I really do consider them to be a great starter watch so much that I’ve been writing a few long form articles on the various versions.

Definitely agree with you on this.

I'm a particular fan of the 552/565 automatics and - if you don’t mind my repeating myself - the .041 cases.

Oh, I ain't hating on Genèves. I own a few steel models; great value, very usable watches with excellent movements. Just this particular gold Genève is a little bit boring and not that great value. Like @ConElPueblo said, a comparable 18K Certina from the same era can be had for $300-350. But those are boring too. In my mind a gold watch should be luxurious, even gaudy, top of the line model. Thick and heavy case so you can really feel the weight of the precious metal used. These economic gold watches from late 60s early 70s are just... I don't know, depressing?

@dsio Looking forward to your article about Genèves 😀

I sacrificed a Geneve for my Seamaster 300. I'm nor particularly happy about that but since I've held one of these older dress watches in hand, I known that although they are pretty, they are too slight for me to enjoy wearing them. If the right ~38mm+ came about, however, I might change my mind.

Morning all.
This isn’t on eBay but an ‘auction’ style Instagram account and this seemed the most appropriate thread to share it. If not, no offence taken if the mods delete. finishing tonight Aust EST.
Anyway, to the point at hand, they’ve led off with what appears to be a tidy Seamaster Cosmic. Not my thing but may be of interest to you folks.

Oh, I agree completely. These are all dull, dull, dull. I just disagree totally with there being any sort of valu proposition in these.
