I'm still hunting for my first watch. Searching for chronometre or Constellation from the 1950's. This one caught my eye because it looks in good original condition and has a waffle dial (despite it not being a chronometre).

1952 Gold capped OMEGA SEAMASTER textured dial bumper ref.2577-1 SC cal.354

Listing says says 352 but picture shows 354 (bummer, as I rather have the 352 bumper...).

I found this information on OWD, which seems to agree with listing.

Serial of 13730260 places it 1952-3.

Is gold capped a good choice for a daily wearer?

What is your opinion the watch and asking price?

Michel

Way too expensive. The gold is flaking off the lower right lug. I like gold cap and am really digging gold, in general. As a daily wearer, depending on what you're doing, it's fine.
Keep looking. There are better, cheaper examples available. Be patient. That coming from the most impatient person I know.

Nice bumpers can be had for half of that money. Gold capping is okay if its in good shape but you have to watch for damage around the lugs.

They do make nice daily wearers, I tend to smile to myself every time I feel the weight shift and bump in the case of mine. Good luck with your hunt!

I'd watch this site rather than ebay..... too many crooks out there. Around here you need to worry more about smart-asses!

For comparison I bought this 1953 Seamaster for $350

I don't see the small amount of gold and waffle dial producing an $800 premium.

Yeah, I agree WAY over priced. There are really decent Constellations out there for that kind of money.

I haven't bought from this seller but he's got some tempting stuff;

Here's a 354 gold filled for a LOT less http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-Attrac...-Watch-Fully-serviced-Timed-QVT-/272083380963

And a Connie that to my eye looks pretty good too http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-Rare-O...omatic-Fully-serviced-Timed-QVT-/281892320313

Another option is WatchRecon It monitors all the sales forums for the various watch sites and you can set your search parameters.
I just plugged Omega seamaster hobnail dial and got a hit. Unfortunately, it has been sold, but you get the idea. http://www.watchrecon.com/?query=Omega seamaster hobnail dial
That's a really nice search engine! Thank you for the link. I put in a few alert criteria.
