Novice questions: Picture 2 and 3 show a decent sized ding in the bezel, directly above the 1 o’clock position. In other pictures (1 & 4), this mark seems absent? That and a lack of movement or case back pictures make me wonder if I’m looking at 2 watches, and what am I getting? Legit concerns?

Ditto, I believe we're seeing a reflection of the lug in the bezel. This doesn't concern me.

Nice looking hippo on the caseback.

You can always ask for movement shots, and see if you can negotiate price if seller can't provide them.

Ok I didn’t quite expect it to shoot up to $1000 usd like that, but then its also the nicest 601 Geneve in a very long time in gold plate, so seeing people overpay for condition rather than for perceived scarcity is not a bad thing.

Something suspect going on with this auction... two top bidders with essentially no feedback. $1000 would be on the high end for this reference (in mint condition) in 18k gold.

Surprised this one is still around, examples in lesser condition have sold for more in open auctions of late
Got it!

Due to some technical difficulties the seller prepared a new ad upon request. The old one should be deleted by now.

I was just about to pull the trigger on this watch. But I’m glad it’s going to a fellow OF member!

Thank you - it is for my fiancee. I think I talked a little too much about watches for a while and now I notice growing interest.

Hello All. Thanks to this thread, I purchased this lovely 1950 2577 Seamaster with a waffle dial. Upon receiving many pleasant surprises. From the ebay seller's photos I, and some others thought the seconds hand was too short, and I also thought there was some fading on the seamaster word due to the angle of the photo. However, the seconds hand is correct and original, the end of it was reflecting light and made it look too short, but it correctly matches the chapter ring. Also, the supposed fading on the seamaster word turned out to be a scratch in the crystal, so I am looking for a new one, but the dial itself is pristine. Extremely happy with this purchase, and my photos can only convey half of its beauty. Will be taking some nicer ones once I get a new crystal installed.
Beautiful watch and good for you!

I’d throw a lowball offer at this one and see what sticks, almost qualifies for the dumpster diving thread but Cal 1480 Geneves are still good watches

Clearly you have a lot more experience in then me (joined a decade ago compared to less than a week...) but I thought it had some bad character, the shape of the logo, the position of the date etc. is this just a case of needing some TLC?

This is a much later Geenve hence the newer Omega logo and Calibre 1480 movement, there were actually quite a few significantly different looking Geneve models that have very different movements, dials, and even Omega logos but share the same overall case shape and design

the position of the date etc.

It‘s set to close to midnight in the pictures, that might explain it, the date mechanism could still be engaged and thus the date disk still moving. This can easily be found out by messaging the seller and asking for a 6am-picture though.
