As-found condition Soccer-Timer Cal 861 on the bay running no reserve auction:

I wondered how the Seller would come up with a price for the rare 861 "automatic". Seller had to run a "no-reserve" because he had no luck finding a value.
This could end up a nice deal for someone.

This ended higher than I expected, it was nice though. For the record sale price at ebay auction was 1640GBP.
Wrong place to post this. Also a few of us think this dial/case weren't born together. Likely was a gold case of some kind.

I was only responding to a recommendation that @dsio made. He included the link, and no photos. I was following up on his recommendation, and I included photos for the record because he did not. I don't understand why this was the wrong place to post. You can find discussions of recommended watches on nearly every page of this thread.

Thanks for the heads-up; it was in vain, I was the first loser. Closed at $3050.99. The second loser bid $2300, so I was close to a bargain. Arguably the winner got one.

But I'll bet the seller got a surprise, they had no clue what they had.

I'll echo that thanks for the heads up. I was that "second loser". The current bid was low, I thought I might just steal it. Beautiful watch.

This looks like it has a seamaster emblem on the back?
It’s normal these sometime have Geneva dials and sometimes Seamaster dials but in both cases the hippocampus and waterproof on the caseback. It isn’t waterproof per se but being a front loader with a relatively solid case construction it is better than average for the era.

While I knew these beauties have the outstanding Seamaster dials, I always thought these were also waterproof!

What I’m saying is the claim of waterproof isn’t really true as today we don’t see that used but rather water resistance to X depth. The Geneves were somewhat decently water resistant for their era, but they’re a 50 year old watch now so they will need seals to be decent at all now. Having said that compared to other watches of the era, these Geneve cases were definitely better than average in terms of water resistance and if they have been serviced and have good seals I have seen them pass a pressure test at a modest rating which is better than many other watches from that period.

I always tend to like these, the US Steel logo doesn’t really hurt the watch to me like Sadam’s face or the Dominos logo does and they tend to be kept quite well as the owners were typically old and retiring when they were given them. The story combined with a nice elegant design with relatively decent WR for the era makes it worth following:
