$5600 with many days to go...馃槻
Any guesses as to hammer price? Based on current and time out I'm going conservatively with $7150 .. 馃槻

At that price these must be serious collectors, which I expect to know how an auction work, why are they bidding up so much in advance? Am I just too naive?

To make it difficult for the seller to sell off ebay since fees for the current bid amount will be collected if the auction is prematurely ended.

And to intimidate prospective bidders from bidding by giving the impression that to bid is futile.

And of course there is always the possibility of shilling.

So the answer is yes. Thank you, I didn't know that.

Has Alex been known to end auctions early? I think he lets them run, so this early bid-up is in my opinion a bad strategy... if real buyers are doing it.

Alex tends to let them run, especially when he knows there's a lot of interest

I just want to add that although the piece under discussion looks to be in lovely shape and that Alex appears on the recommended sellers list, his watches should be judged on an individual basis and the same Ebay `buyers beware` policy should be followed as normal.

A fellow forum member recently bought an expensive Omega watch from him which when it arrived was really in an awful, awful state. Replaced parts, non OEM parts, undescribed damage, etc.

I believe the watch had to go straight back to Mexico for a refund, which of course being in Europe can be a headache in itself especially if our friends at customs and excise managed to get their hands on the watch as it entered Europe in the first place.

He is definitely open to offers to end them early... at the right price.

I share this sentiment. I had to return a watch also several years ago which had some undisclosed issues.

Not sure if this is right place to post this one. This is the definition of a "barn find":

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Omega-Constellation-Chronograph-/111592214854

The band and buckle are 100% original and extremely hard to find. The dial? Well now you know why so many of these old Constellations are redialled...

Wow - just sold at $785! I guess the strap is worth some money...

I was watching it too, I would have loved the strap, but it was a bit rich for me as I didn麓t like the Constellation at all

I refuse to answer that question.

Why would anyone end an auction like this early? The ebay selling fees are already maxed out at a $2500 bid. There is nothing but upside in letting this run.

Maybe for cash. Or for a ridiculously high sum. But I agree, not a gamble I would make, when you know it's going to be Ashley v. Ashley at the end.

For once, I'm sort of relieved to be tapped out just now. Otherwise, I would be risking serious financial injury

Another Alex Special:

Not the cleanest example, but should be OK after a service. Crown is easily sourced.

Let's see where this one goes!

Went for E2000 in the end, which I feel is a fair price for the condition

Pardon my naivety, but do you mean if the seller closes the auction early to repost later for a higher initial bid?
