Also: how the hey does a watch get so many deep scratches on the "haute" or whatever that thing is called? I would seem like a person would need to do something like that on purpose.

That's my birth-year watch! Been looking for a '62 watch of some sort but reluctant to buy a bad re-dial or non-working watch, or one that absolutely needs a re-dial. Maybe any of you guys who're bidding would stop if you see me get in on this? :=D
EDIT - how common is it to have a watch advertised as a '62 but with '61 on the inside of the case-back, and is that a problem?
Its not a problem, it just depends when you consider the watch "of that year".
Is it when the case is made?
when the movement is made?
when the watch is assembled?
when the watch is shipped?
when the watch is bought?
Those 5 things can happen over a span of years
