Although I'm not sure of the association between the gibbon and lah.

Wikipedia sorted it out for me:

"The lar gibbon (Hylobates lar), also known as the white-handed gibbon"

American author and his book- perhaps his most famous, which was published in 1999

It appears as though @Matty01 knows the answer? I have no clue!

On second thought, Hannibal by Thomas Harris?

Nothing to do with dragons 😉.

Stars all around, I think.

Not easy indeed.

All I have is:

Tracks/trax etc
Hamburg (Hamburglar less ER) - Burgl - to Rob
Ratingen (rat engine?) - Inn
Davidson
(Plums minus plums)
😕

Thinking caps on crew.

Edit: Some pointers from Matty set me on a different track 😁.
Still puzzled though. It's a good one.

OK, so I tidy up my clues based on recent intelligence 😉.

Too late for a place though.

That’s a mighty fine start

Tracks/trax etc- yep
Hamburg (Hamburger less ER) partially right
Ratingen (rat engine?) right town, but it’s more about the building wherein Cromwell is alleged to have visited
Davidson (Plums minus plums) yep

The scallywag’s a robber.
The building is a pub (inn)

Indeed- a mighty fine read- the film good too, I managed to get to the premiere with q&a with Robyn… was pretty awesome

Okay! But please explain how the clues point to the names of the book and the author! Doesn’t make any sense to me.
