The spy who loved me? A James Bond film. "th" sound Owl = Hoo Hearts = love Canadian flag = @Canuck, a Canadian, thus "me" So I'd say the individual is Roger Moore who played James Bond in that movie, and also six other Bonds and was famous for being "James Bond" more than any other actor (to date).
The clues lead to an actual person! Clues might be forthcoming………(might be)! I just twigged to the fact that Roger Moore starred in a Bond film named “The Spy who Loved Me”! @JimInOz must think I am vain! He has the correct answers to all clues, but has interpreted one of them incorrectly. If he goes about it the right way, these clues will lead to the name of the aforementioned spy! A real spy!
Drawn a blank with this one, but sticking with @JimInOz ’s spy theme, I’ll offer William Stephenson, a celebrated Canadian-born spymaster. The Spy Who Loved Canada
To reiterate, from the original post on this topic. What do the clues say, and name the individual. What was the individual famous for? @ Charlemagne has interpreted the clues precisely, but who WAS the spy that loved Canada? What was he famous for?
It was no secret at the time. That time being (first clue) three days after the end of WWII. The news at the time, reached far outside the borders of Canada. Many books have been written about him and his activities, and he has written books, himself. Google images has a full compliment of pictures of him. (Another clue)! One of Canada’s allies during WWII were after his hide for years after WWII. There is a danger if I say much more that the cat will be out of the bag!
TA DA! @JimInOz nailed Igor Gouzenko. The included picture was all over the news, everywhere, when Gouzenko ratted out his Russian countrymen living in Canada, who were feeding the pipeline back to Russia, with classified secrets. Gouzenko was a file clerk in the Russian embassy (in Ottawa?). I somehow felt that showing Marty Feldman (who portrayed Igor in the movie The Young Frankenstein) might be the clue that would tip the balance, and end up with somebody answering the rebus.
A good one Doug. All the clues give you the Bond movie, which was obviously a red herring. Here in Australia we had the Petrov Affair at about the same time and this probably overshadowed the Canadian affair.
It was not intended as a “red herring”. Not being a Bond fan, the Bond movie title didn’t even occur to me. https://vacay.ca/2014/01/the-spy-who-loved-canada/
Have been absent for a bit, not through lack of desire- work is just absolutely nuts this time of year
