Clue # 1 - Think Hugo.

I did (one of my favourite movies by the way).

I have, Gendarme/Hugo/Inspector Gustave Daste/Sacha Baron Cohen/Borat.

But the next clue (symbol for man/mail) doesn't align with my thoughts.

The answer to clue # 1 is included in your choices.
I did (one of my favourite movies by the way).

I have, Gendarme/Hugo/Inspector Gustave Daste/Sacha Baron Cohen/Borat.

But the next clue (symbol for man/mail) doesn't align with my thoughts.

Think April 21, 1918.

Lightbulb moment (you cunning fokker 😉).

We've had this before, but I'll button my lip and with for others to chime in.

I can see how the first clue fits in, now 🙄

@JimInOz knows. I have leaked out a few clues, and @JimInOz has leaked a few clues. I gave indications as to several of @JimInOz ’s clues were correct. I leaked out another clue or two. @Charlemagne1333 needs to work on clue # 1 in order to nail down the specific meaning, and once he does that, the meanings of clues # 5 and # 6 will be obvious, and will fall into place. I’ll repeat one clue. April 21, 1918. No more clues!!!

Having googled one of your clues the answer came up straight away, so it’s not a fair solve on my part.

In the interest of fairness, I’ll refrain from posting the answer for now, and let someone else have a go. If no takers, I’ll offer it up before bedtime. (Seeing as @JimInOz is keeping mum)

OK, here we go…

Baron Manfred Von Richthofen:

Sacha Baron Cohen
Man
Fred(dy) Krueger
Vaughn (Von) Monroe
Rich
You got me on this one…

I would think the significant event relating to this person is that @Canuck posted this puzzle on the anniversary of Richthofen’s demise…

@Charlemagne1333 is correct all the way through. However, the sixth clue:

https://ca.linkedin.com/in/pamela-tophen-1191a920

And Richthofen met his demise on April 21, 1918. As is often the case with a rebus, once in a while it is necessary to innovate with a bit of literal translation. 😉 @JimInOz can share in the glory as I suspect he had the same answer.

Question: Might you two have nailed this without the clues I gave?

I think the clue that clinched it was the significant date, then it all fell into place.

I must remember to check dates in history next time you mention "significant event" 😉.

(and also check local time/date in Alberta when you posted it so I'm not a day out)

I felt the “significant date” clue would be the clincher. It also happens to be a significant date in another regard. Nuff said. I won’t make a rebus out of it. I shouldn’t have to. Can you name the event I have in mind? And the person involved?

Probably not. When I googled the date, the answer was at the top of the search results.

All merit to Jim on this one.

The Spanish flu?

No idea about a notable person, other than the fifty odd million that succumbed 😕

Not the Spanish flu. No! Guess again. This event will not yet show up in the site that revealed the Red Baron. It is too recent. I’m waiting. 🍿

Was it your birthday?
Happy birthday, if it was 😀
Having googled the significance of the 21st April, I’ve learnt that it was, amongst other things, ‘National Chocolate Covered Cashews Day.’

Am I getting warm with the nuts?

Not my birthday. No. That was 13 days ago.

I’m rather surprised I have to do this, considering the event has been all over the news everywhere pretty much. Queen Elizabeth was born April 21, 1926, and is celebrating her 70th year (her platinum jubilee), as monarch! Now, aren’t you ashamed?

Here’s one for you. An actual event in the past. The subject person is not shown in the clues.
