Soooo in two years time, the model will get updated with smoother edges and this edition will now be known as the "Speedy Sharp Edge". Value will skyrocket.

And cases that inevitably have their sharp edges rounded off at service centers will reduce the supply of original, untouched cases, causing the premium to balloon. 馃槜

Sharp implies it would cut. It isn't sharp, its a bold edge. It won't cut or snag as its facing the wrist and not in contact with your skin at an angle that would catch anything.

The only concern I would have with it is the edge would be more prone to deformation if you strike the edge against something since its a very small surface area.

I received my hesalite on nylon strap yesterday and can confirm the lugs and edges on sides of case are extremely sharp and feel somewhat cheap (to me). I suspect the sharp edges are more noticeable on the models that come on strap because the lug edges are more exposed where the gaps are between the strap and case. Anyways, sharp edges don't come into close contact with your skin when you wear it, so I'm ok with it. But it does give a sense of lesser quality to the youtubers credit. I think the reaction to his post is unwarranted. What he described is accurate.

And also there is hard butter in Canada. The end is near.

I've never seen people complain so much about a non-issue. I literally have handled and changed straps on my 3861, pretty much weekly and never noticed a sharp edge. This doesn't come up anywhere from people who actually own the watch. This guy is a HUGE Rolex fan boy so he goes after the Speedy.
There I said my peace

I鈥檓 not complaining. I鈥檓 just describing what I have observed as a characteristic of my own personal example, from ownership of this watch and in the context of owning other watches including Omega and Rolex and other brands. It鈥檚 fair to expect premium quality from a premium priced product, and this is one aspect of the example I have that just falls short of my own expectation. Doesn鈥檛 mean on whole that I don鈥檛 enjoy the watch. Not a complaint. An observation.

Also he鈥檚 not a Rolex fan boy. He has featured Omega quite a bit on his channel and I get the impression he really admired and respects the brand and its history.

I don't understand why sharp edges feel somewhat cheap. My AP Royal Oak has a lot of sharp angular edges and that doesn't feel cheap to me. Poor fitment or inconsistent finishing feels cheap.

I was just comparing my IWC Mark XVIII with my 2403 Railmaster. The IWC is indeed much smoother and feels much nicer to the touch. The Railmaster has sharper edges and in my view does not seem as refined. Cheap would be an appropriate term to describe the finish on the Railmaster in my opinion. Kind of reminds me when car reviewers describe interior plastics feeling and looking cheap. Toyota, VW, Nissan probably spend similar amounts on their interiors, but I have always thought VW plastics were better in their price range.

I handled the new Speedy for the first time this week. The case edges are exactly as sharp as the case edges of my 2 month old SMP 300. Both are noticeably sharper than the edges of either my circa 2000s 1861 Speedy or circa 2010s 8500 Aqua Terra. Neither are sharp enough (nor even close to sharp enough) to break skin. In fact, I can't see how anyone could consider them sharp enough to cause even minor discomfort, but realize different people are more/less sensitive to external stimuli (lights, smells, textures, etc.). In my opinion the new, sharper edges look better and are an improvement over the older watches.

I've been wondering the same thing. I feel like it would be the other way around. Wouldn't a poor polish round off the edges to some degree, whereas it would require precision and attention to detail to get the edge to a finer points?

What am I missing?

In all seriousness, I just pulled the trigger on a Hesalite version. It arrives tomorrow (barring Fedex delays)! The Las Vegas boutique was wonderful on the phone with me today. Can't. Wait.

I'll be sure to post my wrist cast....I mean wrist shot..... with the sharpness and bleeding!

It seemed to me that the core aim of that video was to get her daughter's channel attention. The best way to do it obviously is create some sort of a controversy. He succeeded in that. I am not saying that this was a pure clickbait, but I also doubt that he actually considered the "issue" that dramatic 馃槈
