FWIW, I think this Ranchero may be the hardest to source, 2996-1 Center Seconds.

I hope we'll hear from the new owner when watch is shipped or safely in their possession...

"Got caught"??
It's EBay. Nothing at all improper with offering a BIN deal. Totally up to the seller to accept , throw out their number or leave it at auction. Full disclosure, I tried after the seller took the first listing down. Heck @watchknut would knock on the Seller's door if he where to find them.

I don't see why this is a problem? Anyone can make an offer and the seller can decide whether to accept or not. Many of the rarer items are sold this way within a few minutes of listing.

From eBay (FWIW):

Policy overview
We don't allow our members to use eBay to contact each other to make offers to buy or sell items outside of eBay. Also, members can't use information obtained from eBay or any eBay systems to contact each other about buying or selling outside of eBay.

Sellers are liable for fees arising out of all sales made using some or all eBay Services, even if sales terms are finalized or payment is made outside of eBay.

Sellers are also liable for final value fees if they offer or reference their contact information, or ask for a buyer’s contact information, in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, even if the item does not sell.

If you receive an offer to buy or sell outside eBay, please report it.

Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don't, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges, restrictions on listings and account features, suspension of your account, application of fees, and recovery of our expenses in policy monitoring and enforcement.

Yeah. I think they can accept an offer, as well, as long as it's through the ebay system/listing/whatever.. however that works, I have no idea..
basically, as long as they get their share of the listing fees.

And thats exactly the point.

The way I do it is always through eBAY. I ask the seller to add a BIN and complete the transaction.

How do we feel about someone privately making a higher offer after the auction is completed and snatching the watch from the original winner?

Doesn't happen after an auction since anyone who wanted to pay more could have bid more. This does occasionally occur on BINs that are listed for a bargain price by an uninformed seller and quickly sold.

That's what I was thinking as well.. but then I guess if you don't put a high bid in, then you don't take the risk of someone pushing the bid higher..maybe? Since at that point there's one less person bidding on the site. If that makes sense.. hmm..

Not something I'd do, but I guess someone might think that way. Who knows..

Use a sniper program like Gixen.com or similar. Put in the maximum you would want to pay. If someone is willing to pay more than you, you are not going to get the item anyway. This way, you know you've given it your best offer.

With a Buy-it-Now listing, there is nothing wrong with trying to make the seller a reasonable offer through the eBay system. If the seller offers to go outside of eBay, then you know you're dealing with someone who think nothing about cheating you, as they are already trying to cheat eBay.

In other words, run away.

All I'm saying is that someone tried to buy something for 1/3 of its market value, and I imagine Mr Jools knew this too. Anyone who makes that offer once an auction is going on makes that offer because they know the auction will go above that price (otherwise why not just put 2k in as a snipe bid and maybe he will even save a few dollars). 99% of the time it won't be a fair offer - and here was one of those times. To me it seems like trying to taking advantage just a little bit. It is still the seller's item to do whatever they want... but still.

On the flip side, a seller who ends an auction early is a fool. With high interest items - and most omega watches are high interest - it makes sense to see to the end of the auction. Again, the only reason someone would offer 2k is because they are sure it won't be enough at the end of the auction.

So, ya, he got caught putting his hand in the cookie jar.

Wow that went for over 6k? Glad I purchased mine last week. For me the pull is not a potential LE in the future, but my 2913 needs a companion and 2914s are too expensive.

Plus who doesn't love broad arrow hands!

I got it for the same reason, but then I had a problem.

Interesting, I thought they were noticibly smaller that a 2914. Looks pretty comparable in that photo.

I'd say dibs on either of the Rancheros but I've seen them around enough to know I'm well too late for that party 😀
