I am only saying that the only ones who could have any selfish motives would be the ones with a financial/emotional/whatever stake in play.

Hmm,

I think you'll have to give me an example of what you mean, then, because that is the only way I can interpret this.

In what way could collectors have a motivation to lie, for financial reasons, to an individual about his or her watch? And in what way might their emotions drive them to lie?

Just not sure what you're trying to say.

Also, you have to recognize that I was getting edgy because you made a post about how collectors can lie to people about their watches immediately after I and another collector appraised a guy's watch. 馃槣

Haha, I can see why you may have found it a bit fresh 馃榿

Make no mistake, I am not talking about this particular case, hence the "a bit OT..." in my initial post. I just found it amusing that the exact argument you make about skill or enthusiasm could be turned 180 degrees and be used as a counter argument - surely the only ones who would gain from making a statement about a given watch would be someone who had a stake in it, for instance by owning a similar example. The Longines employee would have no reason to misguide.

No offense meant, I guarantee you 馃憤

Anyone got that dead horse thing handy ?

Ahhhhh.

I see, I see. I was not implying that an employee would knowingly give an inquirer false information. I was saying that a collector is likely more knowledgable and enthusiastic than an employee (passion vs. paycheck) and can/will provide more precise and accurate information.

This is the infamous WWW Greenlander that was issued to the MOD in '45, so yes it's a military watch, with engravings on the case back and fixed springbars.

Spring has sprung in Texas

An attempt was made to capture the peach blossoms today. The watch worn to church service was included. The photographic effort was mostly a bust as the breeze was high and the cloud cover made the light dismal by 5:00 PM. We're suppose to have a good chance of rain for the week. The peach tree was in full bloom this weekend but the blossoms will be bedraggled by next weekend after wind and rain so this was the only opportunity. I wanted to catch a bee flying past, but the breeze was making it difficult to photograph the watch and the poor bees were having difficulty lighting on the blossoms, try as they might.

This is a 14kt Longines dating to 1962 and having the 370 movement. It's not a watch which would be too popular among gents these days as it only measures 33mm in diameter and gold isn't so popular. I like gold watches and love the dial with its full complement of Breguet numerals.

A year ago, I was home from the office for lunch and snapped a photo of the peach with the Constellation I was wearing that day.
