Congratulations. You might want to check the other drawers for that bracelet. It may not add a huge percentage to your watch, but you'd be surprised what those go for alone. And while you are at it, look for the original box and any accompanying paperwork. All that adds to the story.

I don't remember if anyone has mentioned it, but that Speedmaster is from between 1957 and 1959 depending on the exact reference. Probably on the earlier side.

I similarly found my 1960 version in a family drawer. Sometime later I found all the papers. Unfortunately I've pretty much given up on the box and original bracelet.

    Cheers

This just pop on Ig ... so I was asking myself if the relume guy was the same or if .... maybe ... some 2915 Lume might age differently on the Hands (if those are original of course )

Amazing! Wish my grandpa had these kind of drawers.

If you’re not strapped for cash, keep it for a while, enjoy it even maybe, it’ll only continue going up in value.

I love all the enthusiasm from you guys  Great advice and encouragement!

I'm affraid the bracelet is nowhere to be found, maybe it has been thrown away during a house move or something. No one in our family remembers ever seeing it so most likely it was thrown away when it was replaced at the shop for more than 50 years ago. Likewise for the original box and papers. Going to reach out to several auction houses in the next few days, so it will be fun to see what their opinion is!

Regarding the relumed hourhand: Nothing has been done to the watch since at least 1970. Maybe something was done before 1970, but not to my fathers knowledge. I do remember that when I found it in the drawer both the hands where on 12. Could that have something to do with it?
So everything on the watch is at least 50 years old, including the bracelet, even though it's not original :)

I think it says "NO 322 915" I dont know what it means.

I'll let you know when I have any news.

No 32 2915? The 32nd 2915 perhaps? Get that caseback carefully and professionally removed and report back on model and serial. Exciting times!

I’m guessing the last digits of the movement number are 32 or 322. Etched on by a long ago lazy watchmaker to properly match up case and movement post service.

Maybe this watch wasn't sold with a 7077 bracelet, but with a leather strap, which was a regular option those days... I'm saying this, because I can't see any marks of the end pieces on the under side of the lugs, which I'd expect to find on an unpolished case, when a steel bracelet with genuine end pieces was worn over a period of time.

Lazy and destructive but there is precedent for it, there are watches out there with numbers scratched onto the lugs. Butchers!

That's where most of my money's gone over the years. Forget the watches, like Johnny said: "weren't for whiskey n women, I'd have money today"

Congratulations @Strope, what an exciting discovery. I will of course echo all the great advice you have received here, but I would also encourage you to really learn how auction houses, strengths AND weaknesses, because it is also not a perfect world on that side.
Best of luck to you and please keep us posted by letting us know whom you eventually entrust with this sale/auction is you eventually decide to part with it.

It was George Best ... struggling to put a link in without it automatically embedding the you tube video ... youtube.com/watch?v=Zu9uSsTGeFo&t=2m45s ... so just copy and paste that one.
