This is a good question. The original bracelets are quite valuable themselves.

Big congratulations to the OP. This reminds me of a similar thread this time last year about a Speedmaster 2915 whose owner received it from his grandfather. It is always so nice to see this type of story popping up again. Best wishes to the OP @Strope however you decide to do with the watch.

I think the bracelet was replaced because it got damaged, maybe at the same time as the bezel got damaged. But we don't know where it could be.

If you’re in the Oslo area Erik Sutterud comes with high recommendations regarding vintage watches.

    Stunning watch

I’m usually in the “keep the family heirloom” camp.

But this is a different situation IMO. The watch was known about and left in a drawer since 1972, so clearly not a treasured possession.

Beyond that, this is a nice down payment on a house or vacation home for most people. Hard to pass up selling. I saw a thoughtful comment recently in another thread about a 33.3 suggesting that the heirloom watch that wasn’t to the taste of the OP be sold and a new watch be bought the OP liked. Why not both yourself and father buy nice new watches that you both like. A modern Speedmaster, 300M, Submariner, or whatever catches your eye out of the proceeds of sale. Start your own memories and tradition.

Awesome story...which I had a drawer find of that kind myself :D Listen to the guys here, you did everything right to present the watch here first. Take your time to make a decision,...but let us know what will happen with it!

I am very much for using the watches I own. The problem with keeping that kind of watch for me would be that I would more or less not want to use it. This because the value degrades quickly if dented. So in that perspective why would OP keep it, if not a collector?

Congrats on this very exceptional find. :) Most likely a 2915-2.

I'd recommend to have the watch opened by a qualified watchmaker and see if the movement is matching the reference, because OMEGA sometimes swapped the movements instead of servicing the original ones in the early 60s. You should expect to find a 15.996.xxx, 15.997.xxx or maybe 16.648.xxx movement serial inside.

I have a question concerning hour and minute hand. Are they cambered or flat? The hour hand looks flat in the picture.

    Oh jesus!!!!
Find a very reputable watchmaker or if you interested to sell it go to well known dealer in consignment and always keep in mind, that is more than 100/150K Euro that we are talking abount. So don't get ripped off.

I think the davidoff Brothers in geneva would be happy to have a look to that watch if you want to sell it.

But be careful and don't attract too many attention online with that watch.

On a personal note note. I would spend some money and find a proper bracelet for that watch.

    Cheers and congrats again!

What do you think of the lack of Hippocampus on the back?
    Did this occur in -2?
    Cheers, Michael

Yes, the Hippocampus was 'obligatory' first from -3 on.

Acceptable for -2. I sold this caseback not to long ago, no Hippo. Also mentioned in MWO.

I don't have the watch with me right now, but I think both of them are flat.

If they are flat, they are replacements. The original hands were cambered.

    dibs on the bracelet!

You have been given a lot of info to sort though. And a lot in a short period of time. I think you will be best served to read these posts several times, ask some more questions, and take your time on making any decisions. At this point, I do not see a need to have anyone touch the watch.

Good luck and keep us posted. We have heard a couple of stories like this, and maybe reach out to one the guys that already went though the same thing you are going through. I can't recall which thread, but certainly worth a look to see if you can talk with one of those guys direct.

Dear experts, Should the watch be wound in this condition?
