I started by picking the watches I could afford for this year and writing a short subject to change plan. I am selling ones I don't wear a ton in order to make room. Im going to TRY and stick to the plan. Also this year when the whiskey comes out, the wallet goes away before I buy something I shouldnt. 😀

Yes i know. Very crazy. Got bitten big time by Omega and Seiko bugs.

Got 10 Omegas (including a Speedy Tuesday, a Speedy Moonphase, the 1957 Trilogy, a birthyear Flightmaster and a CK2998) and 55 Seikos (including a bunch of Zimbes and the 62MAS vintage and reissue). Just for 2018 alone.

In addition, my highlights for the year were a BLRO WG, an Ochs, a Journe and a Lange.

Nice collections! How about 9., I'll buy it if you're selling!
My daughter would be very happy!
I don't think I am letting go of that one just yet! I will let you know if I do though.

Happy New Year all.

In light of the fact that we've just started the new year, what do people have planned for their collection in 2019? More of the same? Focus in on on one particular model? Diversify into other references? Complete switch to another type of watch or brand?

Personally, my buying has been all over the place for the last year or so. I started out around 5 years ago purely looking at Speedmasters but this gradually widened to include an interest in many vintage Omegas from the late 50's to early 70's. In the last 12-18 months in particular this has gotten slightly out of hand to the point where I've been buying watches simply because they're in excellent condition or have an uncommon dial configuration - even if I know I will almost never wear them.

In short I've become a 'collector' when I always said I was a 'wearer'.

I've been aware of this for a while and have sold several watches that I bought like this but didnt wear. The problem was I just went out and bought more!

So, 2019 is going to be the year that I refocus on watches that I enjoy and most importantly, will wear regularly. I'm going to keep one or two dressier watches, such as my Seamaster DeVille but on the whole I'm going to move back to the 50's/60's sport watches.

With this in mind, my list for 2019 broadly includes;
321 Speedmasters
Another 321/320 Chrono, ideally with the with the wide/flat pushers, such as the 101.010.
Vintage Seamaster 300
Exotic dial Camaro
145.006 Seamaster Chrono
145.017 chrono
Full size Chronostop with decimal bezel.
Modern Railmaster or Explorer.

I won't be able to get all of the above as a) funds won't allow it, and b) I'm looking for quality not quantity. Nevertheless, those are the ones I'm on the lookout for.

So, what's your plan??

Initial thoughts—

>> get my Connie back!! 😀
>> Find a new micro brand, try a new label (not vintage) maybe something Valjoux based
>> Get another Zenith, vintage
>> Get more Seamasters, cal 751 maybe a 17 jewel cal 750 or 752, you know, go on the wild side.

I clearly don't acquire watches at the rate some of the other members do, but for me a big part of the fun is in hunting down the watch you want. This often leads me to learn about watches I did not previously know about and probably will never buy but that does not stop me looking.

At some point I have promised myself a PP but the price of them always makes me consider other watches I could buy instead.

On my current potential list is another 321 Speedy, something by Favre Leuba, A pre deluxe Smiths watch (I have only ever seen one in good condition). Mind you I am just as likely to end up buying something completely different knowing me.

I'd like to get something special for my 40th birthday next month and move on some pieces that either don't quite fit into the collection or don't get much wrist time.

I may also move a little faster when a reference I've been hunting comes up. Things seem to come and go in cycles. I've been looking for a Tudor Advisor ref 10050 with a black dial and bracelet for a year or two now. About three months ago a bunch cropped up which I dilly dallied on and now they are nowhere to be found.

Documenting what I've got, when they were serviced, etc. is probably in the cards too.

I think we are so similar!

I've also been on this forum for around a year and around the same time as when I acquired my first watch!

This year, I have added the following to my collection:

1. Longines Column Wheel Chrono Monopusher
2. Longines Legend Diver
3. Hamilton Khaki Day Date
4. Omega Railmaster 60th Anniversary
5. Hamilton Intramatic '68
6. Omega Constellation Globemaster
7. Rolex Explorer 216570
8. Omega Speedmaster 60th Anniversary
9. Timex Marlin Snoopy Edition
10. Hodinkee X Swatch Sistem 51
11. Halios Seaforth III

Apologies for bringing up an old thread.
But I literally just saved/followed this post today for the moment you decide to sell your snoopy.

Nice collections! How about 9., I'll buy it if you're selling!

My daughter would be very happy!

I don't want to fight a 10 year old child over a watch.
But I would.

This year one target: SM 300 vintage. Funny to see these were sold a couple of years ago for $ 3000 in good condition. Market is a bit silly...

And I would like to own a Zenith S.58 in good condition. But that's something for the future.
Check. Still not in my hands but soon to be seen on my wrist! It took a long voyage through the hands of 3 good friends (one living in Miami) but I'll be back in Amsterdam within 5 days to pick it up...

Having built up a fair collection over the last few years, am definitely looking to focus more on the grails. Therefore a year of consolidation and selling off a few of the pieces I never really wear, or indeed bought that I now wonder why I did.

All part of the fun.
Would love:
- Titus Calypsomatic 5913
- Rodania Geometer
- Kelek Seaboard version

I enjoyed this thread when it came out. My own update was having the pleasure of acquiring the Geo, and selling off a Speedy 69 to help fund that. I feel at ease with just leaving it at this for this year.

Looks good! It is also nice to have with the help of friends.

I'm looking at Navi 806s with big eyes these days... I think it is a classic, prices are still within reach. I wonder if it will materialize before the end of the year. I'm not in a real hurry, I landed an unplanned speedy this year.

My plans are to add a few more vintage watches. The main goal this year is to purchase a Speedmaster for my 40th in October. Still debating on vintage or current model.

I'll finish with one of my nicest watch, a 14900-62 I won on eBay last summer.
Looks very new, restored?

All original to my knowledge, except for the crown. The seller was the daughter of the original owner.

Might I recommend Farer, just picked up the endurance auto....very impressed with the quality. Their GMTs and dive watches also look great.

My plan is to sell watches I don't wear more than 2-3 times a year.

I plan to get caught up on watch maintenance and make sure all are serviced and maintain a 5-7 year interval.

I don't plan to buy any watches, but you know how that goes.

6 month update

Pretty much caught up on maintenance.

Sold a watch or two, but still have 3-5 watches to sell.

Bought four watches. Here is one of them.

I sold off all of the early, embarrassing watch purchases that I tossed in a drawer a couple of years ago (Movado fashion watches, busted Seiko 5's, etc) to finance my first 'nice' modern watch purchase. It just arrived today, and I am really digging it!

I know the BB41 seems to be a divisive design, but I think it suits me well (though I wouldn't mind trading it in towards an Explorer in a few years, budget permitting). Now, to get the bracelet resized...

Trying to get down to 6 or maybe 8 core watches that I keep for a couple decades. Already at 9 (from 15!)... after that I might hunt down 1 or 2 more and swap with existing pieces in my collection, but we'll see.

Sell some lower end pieces, and enjoy my collection.
This is funny to see this...

I am still selling my low end pieces...and have procured pieces I never thought in a million years I’d own.
