Well.....back to the original topic.
Yes, i do find that the newer PO bezel "marks up" easily. I honestly can not tell if it is simply what Archer stated as a transfer what it hit against or an actually permanent mark.
I will state that it definitely "shows" marks much easier than my SubC. It id definitely disappointing that I have to look down at my PO and see 3-clearly visible marks on my bezel. I bought my PO and my SubC back in December and wear them with equal time. My SubC has no visible marks and my PO does.......it's that simply and is frustrating IMHO.
Would love to see pictures. I have a subC with the ceramic bezel and a PO LMLE and neither has a mark (yet)
Pictures would be nice, it would also be very interesting to see if the Bergeon polishing stick also works on your marks on the bezel.
I must say I am not having any issues with scratching on my 2500. I use this one as the "beater" watch because up until reading this thread I thought it was scratch proof.
I doubt those flying shitboxes could scratch any sapphire crystal due to lack of competent pilots.
Sarcasm aside if you want to scratch a ceramic bezel it's quite possible but surely you would try and protect your watch rather than wear it with gay abandon. Isn't that what g shocks are built for. They say the liquidmetal bezel is bulletproof but I bet I can damage it without too much effort especially in my line of work. I've heard ceramic is extremely strong but brittle to boot in the right circumstances.
Listen guys if your paying thousands for a watch you've got to be careful my bear wrestling watch is a seiko enough said.
Let me tell you something from a nooby novice.
Anything can scratch don't believe the hype. Scratch resistant NOT SCRATCH PROOF.
A good friend of mine once owned a Panerai, Pam 111 and he managed to get a scratch on the sapphire glass. It was purchased new, I have seen the box, bag and receipt. I was going to buy it but could not afford it at the time.
I'm not saying anything is indestructible but here's a story on how tough sapphire crystal is, if you look at the picture I've included you will see marks on the bezel between 12 and 1 o'clock. The watch was two weeks old and as I undid my seatbelt getting out of a van the seatbelt buckle got trapped on my watch strap. As I wrenched my hand free a spring bar broke and the watch flew into the road landing on its face, then a car ran over the watch. Being mortified I ran over and picked up the watch fearing the worst. Apart from the marks on the bezel the crystal was completely unmarked and still is for the next seventeen years despite being a daily beater most of its life.
I've no doubt other people have horror stories where the crystal scratched or shattered but sapphire is the best material for watch lenses. Now ceramic bezels might not be indestructible but most definitely a step up from aluminium inserts in my eyes.![]()
I have no doubts that sapphire scratches I was merely saying it was several steps up from mineral or hesalite in terms of durability. Ceramic is by no means indestructible either but I dare say it's more durable than any aluminium inserts out there.
Likely just surface marks. Try using a pen eraser to start with, and if that doesn't work, either drop by a boutique or get the proper stick for removing the marks.
Thx for the tip Archer......the pencil eraser trick work and got all but the heaviest marks out. Almost good as new. I am sure if I had the proper stick I could get the rest out. I now looks like they were surface "scuffs" and not scratches.
Much appreciated.....much happier now!
