Pictures on request via PM in Private Watch Sales

Is it possible to edit the posting rules to allow pictures on request in private watch sales? I do not want photos of my watch handing on the internet for the rest of my life if the watch does not sell, I am sure the potential buyers will appreciate more privacy as well. Everything stays the same as far as posting rules, but pictures will be sent on a request via PM.

I believe that goes against the spirit of the FS subforum. It is an exchange for collectors, and a valuable source of historic info on sales prices, which would be useless without pics that show the condition.

I don't think that would be possible, for a plethora of reasons. There have been cases where a watch being sold proved to be a redial and the diligence of the members is what identified that. I'm sure that wouldn't be your case but adding such a rule would definitely lower the quality of the marketplace. I think the rules are ok just like they are right now, but it's just my two cents.
If you are concerned about your pictures ending up where they shouldn't why not watermark them? Chrono24, for example, has a smart example of watermarking.

If you don't want to contribute to the archive, perhaps you may just want to sell elsewhere. The sales forum is a part of OF, which is a community of collectors, and the permanence of the photos and asking prices is a great resource for all of us.

I am just trying to find a balance between sharing data and privacy. After all its called Private Watch Sales.

I believe you can not comment on watch condition in the sale post anyways.

I never said that. Everything will stay the same you will get all the info on the sale except pictures.

Bad idea...

Just getting a feeling of what other members think.

What everyone else said - poor idea that goes against the spirit of the forum. Find a different sales outlet.

Dead set against that.

As mentioned above, part of the purpose of the sales forum (Private and Dealers) is to create a searchable archive to document asking prices and condition of watches for sale over time.

There is certainly nothing wrong with posting only a few pictures with “available upon request” for more.

Please do not remove the few pictures you post from the forum after the sale. We can’t stop you, but repeated offenses will get your listing pulled or not approved.

Good luck with your sale,

Okay, so it's 5 negatives all under archive prospective. Do any actual buyers or sellers want to pitch in?

We become buyers and sellers because of the pictures and less so, the description. What you’re asking is not common here or other marketplaces like eBay, facebook, other forums etc. It’s part of the scholarship

Here is a cheese sandwich that I’m looking to sell.

I’m looking for OIRO £50,000,000.

Pictures upon written request, in blood.

A strangely adversarial response for someone seeking actual opinions; I'm not sure that you're making a good impression on this thread as a potential seller. How did you determine that the members responding to the thread were not "actual buyers and sellers"? Is that based on a search of the archive?

We're all buyers and sellers here in one form or another

Does it matter?

You have to post pictures if you want any chance of selling on eBay or Etsy. The pictures become the property of the site once you post them. They decide when they come down, not you.

You want to sell without pictures, go on Craig’s List and take your chances.

My advice is to get good copyright protection software and watermark the photos. At least if they get stolen, someone will have a tough time removing the marks.

I guess many actual buyers and sellers don't mind posting photos. The resistance to posting a few photos is making me wonder what the OP is trying to hide? Does he want to sell a stolen watch? 😁

Almost all of the people who reacted are buyers and sellers on OF.

Archive is not the only thing. It's also because of spotting potential redials without mentioning this. This way OF can protect inexperienced members.

This is a public forum... if you don’t like it... you know where the door is.

Okay, so it's a hard no from senior members, much-appreciated love, and care in everyone's comment.
