If you can't see this isn't an original dial than I don't know what to tell you.
I guess now we know why the watch was put away for 50 years... disgust at the refinish job!

because I told them not to touch the near perfect dial !!
You see this is the kind of comment that makes me think we might have a previously banned 'member' here yanking our chain. It's not even a good redial.

He didn't send it to Omega factory service. He had it serviced by an independent watchmaker.

CDN1700 is USD1278, more or less.

"Were told"? By whom?
the watch service company been in business 150 years so trust what they say. said they could not fix it had to go to Omega ,

The reason I ask, is because Omega service prices are a lot lower, so you should have gotten back a nice red case with your watch in it, all of the replaced parts, and an Omega service warranty that specified the initials of the person who serviced your watch, the person who inspected your watch, and the average daily rate.

Not necessarily for an older piece like this. They may have charged an elevated rate for the age. Send a CK2998 of similar vintage to Omega (bad idea) and expect a big bill. There were probably a few hundred buck added on by he handling jeweller of course.

I guess that's possible. The jeweler I go to never surcharges for sending out to factory service that I can tell.

You can't be blamed for that, there are eleventy-billion "fake chronographs" out there that are actually day/date watches.

Original dial? Sorry, but no chance. If you don't believe us, find another example that looks anything like this.

What he is trying to say is how are you so certain the dial is "original" if you didn't even know how to use the watch or what it displayed.

Anyway. The dial is 100% refinished. And not done well.

If you enjoy the watch, there is nothing to worry about or be upset about. But you shouldn't deny the obvious, especially when everyone with a lot more experience agrees that it is refinished.

Enjoy your watch!

How can someone have photos of something that does not exist? 😁

English does not read right to left. It says BASE 1 MILE. Common on some chronos back in the day. Never on Omega.

If it's been sat in a drawer with that dial for 50 years you can make the sentimental argument that the dial now belongs with the watch after spending so long together.

Given the fact it was your dads and he saw the same dial, it makes sense for it to stay in place as part of the watches history.

However, please be in no doubt - there is no chance the dial is original. Your dad must have had it refinished at some point, possibly due to water ingress.
