That "1 MILE" is not necessarily wrong, it's just calibrated for miles instead of kilometers.

Which, yes, I know doesn't matter, but that's something they did.

It was not common on Omegas... because it didn't matter. X distance per Y seconds, it takes you 60 seconds to go whatever distance, the units don't matter.

My only thought is that they were trying to distinguish between a tachymeter and telemeter, those were frequently calibrated for speed of sound, so you could see lightning flash and the delay until you heard the thunder told you how far away it was.

The point is that your dial was badly refinished decades ago. You significantly overpaid for your service and you still came away with a watch not worth what you paid. It happens.

Understood, thought it may also be a bad marker of a redial like the subdials and the hour numbers.

I'm confused. Did Omega refinish that dial? I can't believe they wouldn't do a better job than that.

That is certainly true because as near as I can tell, Omega never marked their chronographs that way.

So he sent it to Omega for repair and it already had that dial in it. And they left it that way? Wouldn't they suggest a restoration?

I dont think the watch was badly refinished at all the dial you see is original Canadian in miles from 1958 I know it has sat in my drawer for over fifty years, and never came out. I priced omega service form Canada with three different watch makers all gave similar prices. Just confirmed with the watch maker who sent it for repair the dial hands and face are what I sent him. he is sending pictures.

He didn't send it to Omega factory service. He had it serviced by an independent watchmaker.

CDN1700 is USD1278, more or less.

No, he mentioned both here and in a previous thread that he sent it to Omega.

If you can't see this isn't an original dial than I don't know what to tell you.
