This is absolutely correct and why as I suggested earlier, speculating about individuals is not helpful as it can easily be wrong.
Just to re-iterate we’re going to have to hold off until this has been dealt with by the courts and not discuss individuals here please.

Excuse me if I might have given hints to potentially involved persons.

As a watch enthusiast and Omega fan - like most of us here - I am equally fascinated and disgusted by this story. It's hard to understand why people that have some of the coolest jobs in the industry would be involved in such criminal activities. It hurts to see that people we've looked up to and that we all followed for their expertise at live events and online videos would betray their employer and with it the fans and the community. With great power comes great responsibility – unfortunately not everyone knows how to deal with it.

These Names don't really matter to collectors... They are gone. Took a Risk and lost. Will be extremely scrutinized financially and propably loose everything. And others will leave the Company as well. For Omega Fans it will be of interest, how the Company restructures the Certification process. Maybe skip it all together. Which would not really matter, because if nobody gets one , we are in Rolex Territory with no Infos . Unless you submit your Omega for scrutiny. And Auction Houses will be forced to do the same ...

The reason those names should matter may come out if Omega choose to be genuinely open about what has happened.

At that point some big collectors who have dropped big money on some popular “rarities” will likely want to string those people up by their balls.

So a home office employee or two of a company I bought a watch or two off that someone their grandfathers age would probably have been working there when the watch was made…and a watch or two from the same place they worked a desk job at….Done something dodgy…

Couldn’t give a shit really..

It’s just my 4c….But we were all warned the more money these things we collect became worth….the more skullduggery would come out….😉

Couldn’t care less about the names involved, the damage has been done. But the good news for Oh-Omega is that 99.99% of the general public will never hear or care about this. It’s only watch nerds who will scrutinize and remember this for eternity.

This reiterates that there is always a back door entrance to all venues in life. The brand chose to kick it wide open this time. I hope the certificate process is disband all together, it never added value to begin with as anything can be altered to appear genuine.

Always amazed how they know a lot of details of watches going to auction, but lack the basic knowledge on some of their historic wrist watches !

Then those “big collectors” should string themselves up because that’s who really is to blame for creating opportunities to be defrauded.

Anyone who relies on an “Extract of the Archives” as evidence of authenticity deserves what they get.

For my $200 eBay purchases, it’s good enough, so long as it’s a freebie from Longines. I stoped contacting all the companies years ago when they started charging for them.

In this case, I still believe that there was a conspiracy between the auction house, those employees and Omega, despite the protestations of Omega. It was just poorly executed. If you knocked a zero off the $3.5M price, no one would have said a word and all would have profited.

Someone got greedy and got caught.

To me, that's just obvious.

I am convinced personal profit is behind this. From the dealers and the involved employees. Omega has nothing to gain by proxybidding up this watch to silly levels. The culprits wanted a huge payday and they got cought. They just became too greedy.

This kind of bullshit is nothing new in the auction scene. For example when the Legend Rolex 6263 in yellow gold sold a lot of people knew the record number it would sell at before the hammer. If you have a buyer willing to spend a certain number you will know for sure they will have to.

That watches get put together is what it is. The market wants crazy pieces and then they get crazy pieces.

Really? Having their name attached to a $3.5M watch is “nothing to gain”?

Omega wanted good publicity, they didn’t get it. So now, people will pay. And Phillips cries foul, but keeps the commission they got from Omega.

No one has clean hands here, but Omega has all the soap.

No difference to them if they got it for 500k or 3m. It would have been a record regardless. Personal profit is a way more likely motive.

I think the only thing Omega is guilty of here, is trusting their employees.

The idea that the company would conspire to create and grossly overpay for a franken, sounds like a conspiracy theory...the return on that is just not worth the risk or expense.

And have someone make a fake bridge for the watch they want to buy to put in their museum. 😀

Omega did have a misplaced trust in their employees, But someone above these people’s pay grade should have had to authorize that kind of expenditure for a single item.

If not, then Omega, at the very least, is guilty of lack of proper corporate governance.

Not a good look for anyone.

They relied on the expert opinion of their own head of the museum. I’m not sure what sort of error that would be in corporate governance. Do you think they should have consulted the bean counters on the originality of the watch or something?

The idea that Omega as in on some conspiracy, just doesn’t make any sense...
