Someone showed me this recently and it has me a bit puzzled. Pulsation bezel and AF markings on the caseback. Is someone trying to pull the wool over someone’s eyes? From the front it looks “honest”. Please would you give me your opinions. Many thanks.

Well the bezel is a modern service item not contemporary to -74.

Markings might be old... at least there appear to be some scratches that run over the markings. But they certainly don’t appear to be anything official. Maybe just a privately owned watch with privately added markings. Certainly I wouldn’t view them as adding value.

Watch could be legit, but that modern service bezel has been aged to resemble the rest of the watch. Personally for me it casts quite a bit of doubt on the rest of the story - so I'd buy it at the same price level as any old roughed-up -74 with a service bezel.

Further, it's a very nice-looking dial and handset but I'd ask for UV light photos to see if it's original tritium, or relumed. Given the cosmetic work the bezel received, I wouldn't put it past the seller to have redone the lume as well.

Well, at least the gasket and crystal are in consistent conditions.

Looks like a smooth No NASA caseback, but I thought those were from -71's.
Perhaps the inscription was buffed to make room for the hand engraving?
Que paso?

It looks consistently worn and grimy, so I would be OK with it. It is a watch that has seen life, so probably not 100% original from factory (bezel might have been replaced at any point in almost 50 years!), but not prepared or f*cked up either.

I'd say an honest buy, maybe not a museum piece/collector grade, but is this you are after?
