On Watch boxes (storage)

Just be aware that pelican cases, and other sealed cases, seal the environment IN as much as it seals it OUT. Moisture inside will stay there, doing its work relentlessly, to your detriment. Its why you never store firearms in cases either.

Personally would never ever store watches in a sealed case for this reason. And to those who would say 'but my watch is waterproof, its doesn't matter'....water vapor and liquid water are too very different things.

This is a good point - what would you recommend?

Nothing wrong with Pelican cases as long as you have one of these inside also

I have a lifetime supply of throwaway sachets of silica gel "liberated" from jobs involving unpacking electronic equipment.

Most recent haul was from 100 new telephones to be unpacked, placed on desks and wired up. Shared them with the buddy who got me the gig of course.

Damn, some of these collections are amazing. I just have 4 leather boxes with a felt type interior. I’m not going to post photos as u guys gave me a complex. I have enough watches for just about a different one everyday of the month but many nothing special just watches I like and a few from family members who passed. I would like to consolidate instead of having 4 boxes and a couple original boxes holding one I’d like to get one box to hold them all, or most of them. Hats off to you gentleman.

By the way with my speedmaster I did get the original papers but didn’t have a box. I see omega boxes and a few sites like esty etc but I don’t really trust the authenticity. What is a good source for an authentic omega box. I looked around here but didn’t see any maybe I just missed it

I cant see what the problem is!!!!

i don't know if this pic of up to 50 watches in their boxes in a garage, on a piece of plywood sitting on a couple of carpenter horses is a brag or a level.

i'm leaning towards a brag.

I'm a big fan of these Juvo Luxury boxes. They're pricey but feel fantastic, are super sturdy, and a few of them have these great illustrations up top that add a little whimsy..!

Sorry if I missed this in the thread, but what are your thoughts on watch winder cases?

I bought one and it never gets used. They are convenient especially for watches without the quick set date feature, but the main downfall is that a automatic watch that is always wound wears out faster that one that is wound only when worn. Knowing what I know now, I would never have bought one. On a positive note, I am giving my dad a watch without a quick set date for X-mas and I will give him the winder case along with it.

I bought an empty Pelican case and cut my own foam and works perfectly. I posted some photos on the forum before about it. I leave mine open most of the time and only close and tuck away somewhere when away on vacation. BUT when they happens, I use a ton of silica gel packets. You only need to be concerned with moisture etc if its really long length of time closed. Same principal goes for those that use water/fire proof safes at home.

I'm pretty sure you can pluck the tiny partially-cut foam blocks out of those, to adjust the size of the hole and location.

You can buy the foam to the size of the case. The foam itself is perforated so you can pluck whatever you need out. I used toothpicks to measure and an x-acto knife to make plucks neat.

Here's a link to the original post: https://omegaforums.net/threads/diy-pelican-watch-case.92851

The Pelican case used was the 1495. It's going for about $180 on amazon but you can find much better deals on ebay too and includes the foam already.

This is my watch box. I had a lovely camphor burl box but my insurance company told me I my watches were only insured if I was wearing them or they were in safe. The camphor burl box was too big to go in.

My watch safe is big enough for several 10-watch boxes and a few additional non-watch items.

The Pelican-ish look on this box is actually quite cool. I prefer that over the prevailing wooded look mostly shown. As a side note - what is wrong with storing the watches in the boxes they came in originally?

My vintage watches did not come in boxes.
