A while back I came across an article on Worn and Wound (https://wornandwound.com/diy-pelican-watch-case/) about using a Pelican case as watch case. I figured I'd give it a shot as I thought it looked great and offered decent protection. Just wanted to show how I did it in case someone decides to do the same. I used the Pelican 1495 with the Pick & Pluck foam which allows for 3 rows of 8 for 24 watches with decent spacing for larger watched. My largest currently is 42mm.

Easiest way to determine where you start plucking is placing toothpicks into the foam. To get the cleanest look, I first cut the first layer with an nice sharp x-acto blade.

You can then rip out the rest of the way down but keep the piece as it can be used as a watch pillow also as seen in the photos. Amazon also sells watch pillows if you prefer ordering. When figuring out where to cut, start with one unit from each side on the left and right. And then each spot is 4 units wide and 8 units high with a space of 2 units in between each.

Looks great! Thanks for sharing your work. I may have to consider doing this. I don't have nearly the same size collection but I was never 100% happy with the watch box I found. Works well enough but this thing looks indestructible and like it would hold each one in there securely.

Thanks! Honestly looks great on the shelf and keeps them all dust-free. The pelican case itself is a beat and takes a beating. Got it on eBay insanely cheap too.

Okay, that is a great idea. I might need to 'borrow' your approach. :)

Looks good - what's the model or size of the case you used?

The problem I have with large watch cases is the need to keep all the spots full. It can get expensive fast. Nice work there.

Nice work. For forum members that are less skilled, you can check out nalpak.com for pre-made watch cases using Pelican cases (and likely much more expensive than DIY).

I agree that for those that don’t like the DIY approach, nalpak.com sells really nice pre-made pelican inserts for just about anything... knives, guns, pens, watches... the list goes on

Yes! I remember this site - definitely much more expensive but avoids all cutting. Pelican also has its own service that will laser cut the foam insert to however you specify. Still slightly more expensive but you get the same results.
