The dealer says these issues are perfectly normal for a vintage mechanical watch, and maybe he's right (this is my first), but I would have expected it to be more robust if it had been properly serviced?

There was a recent thread on this topic. There are good watchmakers, but they obviously charge NYC prices. Most people on this forum say to ship to a good watchmaker in another city.

And you can always use the search function. People are hesitant to straight up recommend a watchmaker to a new poster sometimes, but you can find plenty of recommendations if you will search.
