Omega vs JLC - X'mas watch recommendations

Hello all, greetings from Sydney.

I am looking at hopefully getting a watch for X'mas, and I have two options. I know this is pretty much apples vs oranges as these are two very different kinds of watches, but am confused nonetheless. They both cost $13,500 ish here in AUD. Both have a dial complication I don't have in my collection, i.e. one has a worldtimer and one a power reserve indicator. Both are blue, and I already have dress/sports/dive watches in my collection. I like them both equally, hence the question. Anyone experienced with any of these specifically? What do you think? Thanks and Cheers 馃榾

As you said, apples and oranges. I would ask yourself which will get more wrist time.

One other factor to potentially consider, while the blue dial is relatively new for for the JLC, the Reserve De Marche line has been around for some time. There are going to be many less World Timers out there.

The JLC will get more wrist time now that I think about it, as wearing a worldtimer during Covid is kind of an oxymoron. We used to travel frequently before, so it made more sense. But for its price, that worldtimer not only is a stunner but very fairly priced IMHO. On the other hand, I don't have a JLC in my collection (unless I consider the movement used in another AP). Omega is more sturdy of a watch though, at least from a daily wear perspective

I haven't worn either, but have seen both - for my money, the World Timer would win just due to how interesting I find the dial.

Now for yourself and what you would get more enjoyment or use out of...?

Hard to go wrong, but if it was simply for the collection/my enjoyment, the World Timer.

But, I think we are all hoping that we will get to travel again! 馃憤

Worldtimer dial is very interesting, that's for sure. It's just the JLC boutique/AD here in Syndey don't have the blue version in stock, and I wanted to see both before making up my mind. Since you have seen both, how bright is the JLC blue compared to the Omega version? In the pictures online it almost looks like a fume dial

Honestly I鈥檇 go for a reverso if you don鈥檛 have one.

You need to decide whether $13K is better spent on a watch or your family. A watch will never love you back.

True, but it's a gift from the family 馃榾 They are just letting me choose. Besides, this is rare, not often do I get the chance to get such lavish gifts from them 馃榾

Or that one.
Can't seem to like the Polaris on my wrists... It's a great looker, no doubt, just doesn't look good on me

So glad you can do that. I will be begging for food in a couple months.

Want to buy a watch?

I like Reverso Tribute Duoface, but can never settle on any example where I like both sides equally. And when it comes to reverso, I don't want the engraving, I would rather have two time zones.

I have the aqua terra and have worn it more than any other watch in the collection since I picked it up right before lock down.

a little tough to wind by hand but that鈥檚 no problem and the world time feature requires a bit of focus to tell different zones due to small text and numbers.

other than that zero complaints and would recommend.

As a real fan of Omega (I have had two Geneves, two Speedmasters, three Constellations and three Seamasters), I will tell you that I have recently acquired a JLC and it is in a different league. Omega makes spectacularly good watches that are also a great value proposition compared to other mass produced Swiss brands (I鈥檓 talking about you, Rolex) - durable, reliable, stylish and with cutting edge technology, particularly in the new METAS certified master chronometer models. That being said, I would not describe Omega as a brand that represents haute horology whereas JLC most certainly does. Really comes down to your personal preferences, but you can鈥檛 go wrong with either brand.

Thanks, but any particular reason why, please?
