··Sunburst dial fanI know that the thread is ‘modern dress watches', but as an old fashioned aficionado, I’ve always thought that with dress watches, dress cuff links and dj's and suits generally, less is more.
So, with that in mind, I’d avoid gimmicky dials with moons, sub-dials and even (though the two I posted have them) date windows. I can just about make a case (not literally) for no sweep second, and suggest that you really don’t need to know time to the second.
I once read, possibly on OF, that a ‘gentleman' shouldn’t wear a dress watch or any sort of watch when wearing a dj, in case it looks like he’s timing the evening and hoping it will end.
So, modern or classic, ditch those sub dials (particularly in odd positions), ditch moons and stick with old fashioned classic. No pun intended but, they’ve ‘stood the test of time'.
To use a sporting metaphor, 'form is transient, class is permanent'.
