Yes, this LE watch trend is boring, not the discussion here in OF. And these watches are boring because they come as a result of lack of creativity. Panerai, AP, Hublot, many brands have done it before. And honestly, this move cheapens the image of Omega as a luxury brand in my opinion.
Predictable? Can you share the thread or post where you or someone else shared this version of watch before today? (Saying people predicted another LE doesn’t count as ‘predictable’, since it is Omega’s job to crest and sell watches, LE is a great way for them to do so)
Launching LE watches every now and then is predictable, not the watch itself. And by the way, they could have done better in terms of design. Colorful crap is what came to my mind when I saw this watch.
I’d say 500 watches sold within hours, paid for up front and coverage on at least 3 prominent watch sites is pretty good for Omega. They cannot please everyone all the time, nor do I suspect they even care or pretend to try to do so.
Regardless, kudos to Ben Clymer for this move. It is a remarkable success that a brand like Omega would make a watch to commemorate the birth of his site. Hodinkee has proved to be a very successful business. I used to read them in the past when this site was a respectable independent watch blog. Not anymore. Now is just a site selling watches and accessories.

·Or acknowledged how Fratello and hodinkee have been instrumental in the continued success of Omega. Abtw will not be getting one. I doubt hodinkee is making much money on these.
Ref. ABTW I think they have done several positive reviews on modern Omegas, on the Globemaster and new Speedmaster Racing to name a few. The issue might be that Ariel is now increasing exposure for entry level brands and ABTW has perhaps become too generic to be associated with a Speedy LE. I am also not sure that Ariel would have the design/taste chops to propose a truly outstanding Speedy LE.

·This thing is beyond unappealing, both visually and philosophically. Visually, it's reasonably ugly. Beyond that, and I'm sure Ben is a nice guy and all, but why would I want to wear a watch that tells the story of a stranger (whose only claim to fame is starting a website about watches) and his grandfather? That's such a personal story. Great watch for Ben to wear but anyone else? I would feel weird wearing that thing, especially if anyone ever asked me about the watch: Well you see, there's this guy I don't know, and when he was a kid his grandpa gave him this watch, so now I wear it in tribute to them? The hell outta here with that LOL
Additionally, aren't homages usually styled after watches that have become rare, extremely more expensive, or both? Yeah, let me pay $6500 for a watch that mimics the original ... an original I can buy an example of for less than half the price of the homage. Yeah, thanks, I'm more than good on this one.

Or if it were only sold through Omega Boutiques / ADs like a regular LE. I have a feeling a large proportion of the buyers of the 250 available on Hodinkee's website are flippers hoping to cash in on the trend of previous Hodinkee LEs

This watch seems to make no sense horologically. Which end of the two-headed seconds hand are you suppose to use? I suppose you pick blue on left or right and then remember to use that the next time you check the accuracy of your watch.

I actually rather like the multi colour Mk40 and have considered buying one for years. But don’t like a watch that parodies the look with none of the actual features.

··Oooo subtitles!I disagree that the variant of mk40 is an homage. It makes sense for the complications of that watch. Personally the black dial is one of my favorite pieces.
Do you honestly think they picked a colour scheme for that Mk40 which so closely resembles that on the Flightmasters at random? I don’t. It worked and I like it but it wasn’t universally popular on the Mk40 and IMO looks contrived on the H10 where the extra colours are unnecessary affectations.

Without getting into the debate about LEs and collabs in general, I agree. The Speedy Tuesday watches, though conceived by Robert-Jan and Omega in tribute to the hashtag, are just cool-looking Speedmasters that pay tribute to the, um, Speedmaster itself and its own history. Whereas this Hodinkee contrivance pays tribute to Ben Clymer, his grandpa, and the actual Hodinkee website. Since I'm not Ben or his grandpa, and I don't work for Hodinkee, there is absolutely nothing cool or interesting about this watch's backstory and inspiration. I would definitely feel wrong wearing this watch, it's another person's tribute to themselves, basically.

I get that many/some don’t like the look, or the function, or the reason behind this watch. That’s all fine. Some do like it.
What I don’t get is the magnitude of the hatred for this LE and how it seems to have some kind of ‘bigger than life’ meaning. It’s put out by a company that tries to make money by selling watches, and they did this one in collaboration with a very popular website/blog. It’s really not so significant, nor should it be surprising, nor will it be the last...

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm certainly not mad about it. I'm just amused by it. How many people get to collaborate with Omega on a Speedmaster? And when these guys got the chance, they chose to honor themselves. People are fans of the Hodinkee site because they like WATCHES, they don't like watches because they are fans of Hodinkee LOL. But you're certainly right, it's not that serious.

·Honestly, I like the ultraman because of its look, packaging n gimmicks n my own soft spot on Ultraman series. I do not care about Speedy Tuesday or Hodinkee, in fact better to do without for me
